Zombie Earth Origin: The Abandoned Facility
When we last visited Zombie Earth in Leicester, the event was very much a full city wide zombie survival event. Unlike similar events, we were shocked at how hard it was to stay alive and we came away exhausted, having been literally chased for nigh on two hours. Their next event Apocalypse was just as eventful and so when it was announced that their new event would be indoors we sort of hoped that things might be different. But hey, when you have a winning formula, why would you change it?
It must be said from the outset that the building used for the Abandoned facility is NOT the building the game was originally designed for. Zombie Earth had full access to a 7 storey abandoned hotel building which would have been an excellent venue. Unfortunately due to last minute health and safety concerns, the event was relocated to an abandoned warehouse, which although still impressive, lacked the unique design elements of the hotel. Then to cap it all - the landlord of the new venue only let the creative team in about 2 hours before the public were due to show up! The fact that this show still managed to impress us despite all these massive last minute hurdles is testament to the resilience and determination of the Zombie Earth team!
In the earlier games, we had been introduced to the "zombie infection" and had our fair share of experiences with the infected, This time, our mission was a bit simpler - enter the facility, find anyone alive and most importantly - locate any vials of antidote that may have been dropped in the haste to evacuate the premises. It sounded easy - surely nothing could go wrong?
With any game such as this, guests need to put in a certain amount of effort and dedication to enjoy the experience to the full. It would be very easy to walk straight through and just avoid the zombies, but the clues and scenarios have to be carefully teased out of the actors and this was one of the highlights of the show. By stopping and really conversing with each character we learnt so much more about the scenario which added a greater depth to the whole experience. The actors were particularly strong and convincing and we could have spent more time with them if it wasn't for those pesky zombies!
Unlike the city wide games, the smaller nature of this event meant that the hordes of zombies seemed to be everywhere and between scenes there was rarely a quiet spot without anything happening. In fact, this actually made it quite difficult to clear some of the missions (or even go back and rescue abandoned colleagues!)
As we continued through the story, we were mercilessly stalked by some very hungry zombies until we ended up in a massive room with one obvious exit, a large number of antidote vials to collect and a horde of flesh eaters looking for their next meal. We hadn't done too badly up until this point but by the time we had left that room - the ratio of infected to uninfected in our group had swung dramatically!
Like many events, the end of the show comes with a full scan to identify who has been infected and who hasn't. No matter how many times we do these things, knowing that we usually get caught each time, it's always a tense time being scanned for the virus, and we stood with our fingers crossed behind our back hoping that they don't spot us!
Throughout the whole show - we couldn't find fault with any of the actors - the zombies were suitably scary and fast moving and the survivors and other people we met throughout were strong and believable and all helped to make an impressive event.
Given the logistical nightmare that the Zombie Earth team were faced with, they pulled off a very impressive experience that had most of our team terrified, chased and on edge for a good hour or so. We were fortunate that we were joined by some people who had never done anything like this before and their reactions and responses to each scene really helped us to enjoy the show for what it is - dark, scary and a lot of fun.
We look forward to what the team come up with next

This was my first scare event, and boy was I impressed. I was with a group of 7 where i was the nooby so to speak, everyone else had done a survival horror game in some form or another. After entering the facility and we were given the back story and our task, we immediately found ourselves engrossed in the task at hand, Found out Why, What and How, and then survive.
We first found ourselves greeted by a survivor who gave us a rough idea after questioning about what had happened but we were still quite clueless so as we found ourselves fleeing from the survivor who was being eaten by a zombie after she ran ahead, we ended up meeting a survivor who had been studying the effects of a potential cure, we were lead into a room where were a zomine names Larry had been given the cure but still zombie like, in the next room a second zombie who had been given the cure reacted differently and turned into a surreal threat that although we escaped we lost the first of our group. After fleeing for our lives and trying to escape 3 zombies we managed it but along the way lost another to the zombie horde. 2 down 5 to go, we carried on aware that our numbers were decreasing rapidly and yet we still had a mission to complete, finally as we're reaching the climax of our adventure we ended back in the room with the scientist who had lost the cure after being chased by zombies. There were 15+ zombies between us and the cure and there we lost another 2 people to them. After finding both the vials we made it to the safe zone where the infected were turned into Zombies and the remaining 3 survivor honoured.
The scenery was great considering the staff had only 2 hours to prepare they did a fantastic job. For my first experience it was amazing, would heartily recommend everyone try this at least once
