Scare Kingdon - Valentines 2015
Scare Kingdom Scream Park opens its gates once again to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Similar to last year’s February event, Manormortis and Psychomanteum were on offer to terrify loved up couples and fearless families for two evenings. Once arriving at Scare Kingdom we were directly escorted to the Phantom Masquerade - this year's makoever of the Manormortis building.
We have visited this exquisitely themed maze on a number of occasions since its inception during the 2013 Halloween season and so we were intrigued to see how the new story and characters could breathe new life into this already impressive Manor House. Upon entering the house, we were welcomed to celebrate Victoria Haxenghasts secret engagement to a mysterious Swiss Count. But as we wandered the haunted halls of the Manor, we discovered the secret behind the Ball Mask - Edward Mordrake, the two faced demon was Victoria’s fiancé and he had horrific plans for his new bride to be.
The maze remains aesthetically similar to previous visits and is still incredibly themed throughout. But no maze is complete without actors and the actors were on point throughout our visit. With a great use of levels and multiple use of scare tactics, the actors did an impressive job of keeping us screaming.
The only downside to the experience was the actual flow of the maze. Some rooms were solely ‘scare rooms’ and others appeared to be ‘theatrical rooms’. This meant we were sometimes unsure on whether to continue onto the next room or to stay to hear a scripted piece of theatre. Although we did enjoy both aspects, it did unfortunately disrupt the overall flow of our visit as we stopped and started throughout the show.
After leaving Manormortis, we joined the queue for the sick and twisted Psychomanteum. Now in its 6th incarnation entitled ‘Shock Treatment, we were once again welcomed to the pyscho-sexual facility. The experience takes the same extended route created during the last Halloween season and again we were welcomed by some very extreme characters and scenes.
Psychomanteum remains the "Marmite" of scare attractions. Some of the members of the ScareTOUR team love it whilst others absolutely hate it. This version wasn't as intense or sick as the previous versions of the show but used new ideas to create an extremely uncomfortable and degrading experience. Which after all - is what it was designed for..
