Leporiphobia at London Bridge Experience
Leporiphobia. By definition, is an abnormal, debilitating, and often paralyzing fear of evil mutant bunny rabbits…
But, no matter how cute and fuzzy you may think these little blighters are, there are those in the western hemisphere who will run a mile from them in blood curdling fear (you only have to know of the bunny from Monty Python’s Holy Grail to understand their deadly intentions). And who better to exploit this fear, than the very attraction who brought us such furry monster events as “An American Werewolf in London” and their classic staple Halloween event “Phobophobia” (yes, that one that saw a very strange wedding ceremony that still haunts our dreams!)
Being the first guests of the evening to enter, we quickly realized this was no ordinary Seasonal event. We were soon faced with a deeply disturbing black and white montage of several scientists performing experiments (or torturing, depending on how you perceive it) on a helpless rabbit. Such experiments included cutting of ears and dissecting of the torso, and we stood there helpless, hoping that the footage wasn't real.
Before long, we had time to find out more as the devious doctor came for us, starting the night's scares off with a bang! From here on in, the normal history tour took a backseat as this event was all about the rabbits, and the genetic modification experiments of the deranged doctor. With a flurry of his hands, and an over-stereotypical German accent, he invited us to inspect the decrepit laboratory, where we were subjected to a dark, foggy atmosphere, with mutants appearing from every direction. The only thing we would say is that the mutants seemed to target the guests in the middle of the group mostly and our group leader did feel that he missed some of the action.
As we began our descent into the tombs for the usual photo spot even the front of house team were eagerly awaiting their turn to intimidate us before we were herded into the abyss. Very little had changed down here for this seasonal makeover, although with the tension and atmosphere still on a high from upstairs, it was enough to make us all bolt for the exit, while debating whether we really want to celebrate Easter any this way again!
Leporiphobia was another success on LBE’s part. Their use of the existing sets, provided well-executed scares, not to mention the often-crude language and eerie dialogue. We were so submersed in the atmosphere, we didn’t even notice until leaving that we had been almost sexually assaulted by the bunny puppet, courtesy of the doctor.
Our only minor observation however would be that it was a shame that we never got the chance to see the poster boy for the event. We wondered if he had been used as part of the promotions team on the street, but alas, we never saw him. Perhaps, if this event were to be used for next year, he could be the prize creation sought out by the doctor. We should point out that this is the only minor note for the whole evening, which should not reflect on the performances (or scares) of the entire event.
A cracking night out! (Come on, you didn’t expect this review to have at least egg joke?) A great event! Well-done LBE.
