Woolley Edge October Screams 2014
Primrose Unknown Projects are back for 2014 with a brand new attraction ‘The Pit’. The exciting addition compliments the already established ‘Barn’ at Woolley Edge October Screams.
The Barn
The Barn impressed the team in its opening year last Halloween and the PUP group pulled out all the stops yet again this year. The screams could be heard from within the walls of the working farm Barn and after our safety briefing and rather captivating back story we were eager to see the ‘Family’ that lived within The Barn.
It was up to us to decide whether or not the inhabitants of The Barn should be admitted back into our community, and after our extremely terrifying visit, a resounding NO is our answer, unless you want deranged, evil children and crazy plate smashing mothers living next door to you?
The Barn had a cast that any huge budget scare attraction would die for, with every single actor really bringing their A-game to the table. Each character was well thought out and executed to perfection. With great actors along with beautifully themed rooms, Primrose Unknown projects have the perfect formula to create a fully immersive experience with a perfect ratio of both impact scares along with short scenes and storytelling.
The Pit
New for 2014 is ‘The Pit’. Certain members of the family that belong to ‘The Barn’ have broken free and now live within The Pit. We knew very little about the attraction before joining the queue but we soon found out that we would be hooded and alone! Hooded mazes have a mixed reaction amongst the team and indeed the general public. They appear to be the marmite of mazes, you either love them or hate them. The team LOVED The Pit, the use of simple but effective techniques kept the team on edge throughout the whole attraction. We specifically became helpless and terrified when the rope you follow suddenly ends, only to be told to get on our hands on knees for a very effective and most intense chainsaw scene we have experienced.
Primrose Unknown Projects ensured that we could not see a thing by supplying us with not only a hood but a blindfold to wear also. The darkness only heightens the scares! Many hooded mazes you can just about make out a figure or see aspects of the maze, which sometimes makes the hoods pointless, we must commend Primrose Unknown Projects to ensure this wasn’t the case with The Pit.
Overall The Pit has a very simple design yet produces extremely effective scares throughout and had the team running, (well crawling) for the exit!
Primrose Unknown projects are getting stronger by the year. We must praise the team on how much effort and dedication goes into their attractions and events. They have taken the huge leap from home haunters to quality attraction owners within a very short space of time. We look forward to what the team have up their sleeves on our next visit.

We visited Woolley Edge October Screams on Wednesday 29th of October 2014 and tackled both mazes.
I will start with "The Barn" - This is a great scare maze that is a tribute to the creators and the Scare Actors. The Family inhabit the Barn and can't wait to meet you, a great old fashioned scaremaze executed superbly and the fact that you are sent through in small groups adds to the whole experience, making it a much better attraction than something like Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando Resort.
Interaction is the name of the game and the more you interact the more you get from the experience, the Scareactors were awesome and really created a creepy atmosphere, overall an amazing experience.
Now, on to the MAIN attraction - The Pit!!
This is a maze unlike anything I have experienced before, you are blindfolded and then a hood is placed over your head and you are guided to "the Rope" and you begin your journey through "The Pit".
I will not put too much here , as knowing anything about this scaremaze would spoil the experience, but the fact that you go through on your own makes it a very intense experience, but it is a MUST DO attraction.
Woolley Edge October Screams is a must visit attraction and is an absolute tribute to the creators and the Scareactors.
Thanks for an awesome night.

going to pup events never disappoint went last year was excellent and this year was even better was terrifyed also the new event the pit was very scary evac was heartbeating shaking scary the barn is very good so if you want a really good scare this is the place to go
The Barn is a nicely thought out 'inbred family' home scenario and features some very nice use of cut-thrus and a well designed maze to provide a good length visit thru a good variety of set piece rooms. The actors throw themselves into some diverse roles with great enthusiasm and interact well with visitors. The creepiest highlights for me were SpadeGuy, BathGirl and of course - Mama!
The Pit is a complete contrast. Gone are the fun scenarios and creepy characters and you are just left with 2 very disturbing things - no vision (only a rope to hold onto all the way thru) and your own imagination. Writing too much about this attraction is difficult without spoilers, but PUP are to be praised for one of the more creative, simple and innovative attractions i've been round in a long while. Well choreographed actors make this an ingenious and deeply disturbing walkthru event.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I wrote the soundtracks for both these events but interestingly in The Pit, though I normally listen quite carefully to how my audio is working with an event on a walkthru, on my first walk thru The Pit, I completely forgot and became entirely focused on one single thing - the rope. Very clever event, well worth a visit.

Total rubbish bunch of amateurs go to yorkshire scare grounds 100%better this was a waste of money if i could get a refund i would no organisation just crap Never visit again should not be aloud to rip people off should be shut down
All i can say to the above is that this is very bitter. The attraction was fantastic. Of your looking to spend a fortune head to to.scare grounds. For the.price we paid we got woolley and Evac. It was fabulous. Evac is in sheffield. Fab venues and if i dodnt know beyter id say its s rival company with a sour taste....but what do i know!!!We did all 3 and i know where i would head every time!!! Barn and pit fab job guys
I thorougly enjoyed these attractions and would recommend them. The barn was enjoyable, but the highlight was the pit. Very original idea and truly disconcerting making you feel very vulnerable.
Based on a Christmas Tree Farm in Woolley Edge, October Screams is a lot of fun. We actually spent the entire day there starting with the daytime family event, Spooks in the Straw, which was great, but we were really there for the 'after dark' attractions.
Once the sun was down and it was nicely dark we began with The Barn. Our guide told us the tale of a family on a neighbouring farm who had been caught cattle rustling. The villagers had taken it upon themselves to capture and imprison this family in the barn, and there they had lived for many years. But now it is 2014 and keeping people imprisoned just isn't right, so this family are to be reintegrated back into society. It was attempted last year but failed... Our group was to visit with the family in their makeshift home and decide whether they were ready to live among people once more.
The guide left us at the barn door and we entered cautiously. We picked our way through sheets and plastic that formed the rooms and corridors of this habitat, finding ourselves in the thick of 'family life'. We were beseeched to play, begged for help, chased out of the kitchen for trespassing by an irate mother, separated, poked, prodded and shouted at. We found ourselves in the thick of a storm where the lightning made it hard to see the path, but once we found it we were chased out by Farmer Fred and his huge shovel, it was terrifying. We decided the family should remain in the barn, although one or two of them escaped and roamed the farm from time to time - Farmer Fred seemed to be lurking in every dark corner or just over my shoulder every time I looked!
We moved onto The Pit. A solo scarezone. I genuinely wasn't sure if I could do this so I sent the husband through first. He survived. I knew I had to do it so I surrendered, was blindfolded and a black bag put over my head. I was led to a rope which I would have to follow to get through to safety. It was nerve-wracking. I'm not going to say very much as I do not want to give away anything but I was led this way and that, tied up, led away from the safety of the rope, disorientated, touched, whispered and yelled at, made to crawl and crouch... and then there was the chainsaw...
It was a scary experience, in the back of your mind you know that you are safe, but then there is a big voice screaming at you to run, to get out of there, to remove that hood - but what would you see? Better to keep the hood on and be blind to the horror that surrounds you. I'm not afraid to say that I shrieked on more than one occasion!
This event was amazing value for money, a thrilling and scary experience and one I plan to return to again and again and again! The production quality is fabulous, the scareactors are consummate professionals: never slipping character for a second; the location is perfect, in the dark it feels as if you are in the middle of nowhere, yet you are less than 10 minutes off the M1 - so easy to get to as well. I went with my family 4 days ago and it is still all we are talking about!

We went to The Barn and The Pit at Beacon Hill Farm, Woolley on 29/10/2014 as a group of 8 including an 11 and 14 year old. The Barn was brilliant, it looked really creepy, it sort of reminded me of the original 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' house, the tour guide explained the back story about the family who lived in the barn so we knew what to expect...or did we??? The actors were amazing, never breaking character and completely creeping us out, especially as one of them knew our names and kept screaming them at us. The strobe maze was horrible (in a good way) every time I went forward a strange boy ran at me making me run backwards!!! Farmer Fred and his shovel was the icing on a very scary cake!!!
Onto The Pit, and I really did not know what to expect here and I certainly didn't expect to have to go through by myself!!
Walking somewhere I don't know and not being able to see is one of my big fears as I'm terrified of falling...so basically I spent the entire time in The Pit totally freaked out and panicky and thankfully I didn't find out until afterwards that the noise I could hear at the end was a chainsaw!!
And just to top off an excellent evening, I had a cuddle with Oscar the very friendly big black cat that lives at the farm and the coffee on sale was a decent cup...always a big bonus.
Can't wait for next year xxxx

We visited the barn and pit last Thursday, having been to the barn last year and thought it was brilliant, hence why we returned :-) the actors were all amazing and looked fab (make up was fantastic)! - The pit was absolutely terrifying! Such an amazing idea, 10/10! Cannot wait for next year already, well done guys :) xxxx
Absolutely fantastic, really scary!! Great value for money. Would recommend and would be back next year!
Mildly scary - its ok but nothing great
Two very different scare attractions. The Barn is an immersive, well themed, story led maze with great interaction between the guests and actors. The Pit is one of the most terrifying attractions I've done. Blind folded and hooded, with only a rope to lead the way to an excellent ending.
Primrose Unknown Projects offer experiences that are closer to immersive theatre than standard scare mazes.

The Barn was very well themed, with great talent who interacted well throughout. The blood stained home and broken plates were nice touches with a well executed strobe maze finishing with a nice prop used instead of a chainsaw with similar effect.
The pit was terrifying. Intense throughout. In a hooded maze it could be easy to have scare after scare, but after losing the rope, leaving you to blindly fumble and introvertedly start to panic, the lack of scares or interaction made it wholly more terrifying!
Great mazes, I will become a regular!
