Woolley Edge October Screams
New from Primrose Unknown this year, The Barn at Woolley Edge October Screams, is an ambitious project that we were eager to experience. Set in an unassuming working farm, you would be hard pressed to find any clues to the sinister nature that lurks inside its simple metal barn structure, aside from the screams which linger in the air.
Before we enter 'The Barn' we are met by a guide, who gives us a little background history about what we are about to let ourselves in for. The story is told that some local farmers many years ago were caught slaughtering humans and with the lack of prisons were locked away inside this Barn for public protection. Many years later, the barn has been unlocked for us to search and explore - it's been reported that the family are fully rehabilitated ... surely nothing can go wrong...can it ?
From start to finish the maze feels like you're stepping into a 1970's B-movie. The sets oozes detail with a rustic charm that completely befits its theme. Despite having a smaller budget than some of the more established haunts, each location within it is authentic and believable - the living room scene and kitchen scenes in particular looked as if they came straight from a film set. Of course there are some moments of creative license involved, these are well placed and thought out, to remind you that you were heading deeper into something that was 'not your normal traditional family home.'
There's some really clever ideas inside and at times you really don't know whether to keep moving or watch the action play out. The mix of storytelling and action felt just about right, giving you time to compose yourself before the next fright which was just around the corner. We loved the use of acrobatics in the maze, it was totally unexpected and a nice touch.
The 'Outdoor' maze felt much bigger than it actually was with the actors relentlessly working it to keep us on our toes. From start to finish we were followed and picked on mercilessly.
The attraction's theme music is also worth noting. A completely new composition by Tollbooth Music which was a total step away from what we've been accustomed to. The music starts off slow, grungy and dirty. It really felt like it belonged in a Tarrantino movie. As the maze heats up, so does the music to create an incredible seamless crescendo of a finale that gives the attraction even more credibility in it's storytelling. It simply had us running for the door in a panic which is rare these days. A traditional way to end the maze ended up feeling fresh and well executed.
In short, The Barn was a real surprise! We knew it was going to be good, as we've grown to know how much passion Primrose Unknown have, but this was so much more. It's clever and well thought out, and some of the larger attractions would learn a thing or to by visiting this hidden gem.

Fantastic attraction, credit to all involved - N. Martin
A new scare attraction at Woolley Edge farm called The Barn opened it’s doors this October. A family who lived on a nearby farm were accused of slaughtering animals and the residents in the most inhumane ways imaginable. The locals took it upon themselves to hold the family as prisoners in The Barn as there was no prison. After many years the locals feel it may be time for their release and this is where your tour of the barn comes in as they leave the decision down to you.
What starts off as a simple tour of the barn and the prisoners help in the barn quickly spirals, leaving you one choice but to escape the clutches of the prisoners held in The Barn.
All in all the storyline was simple yet very effective, the scares were consistent, and it didn’t take long for you to be suddenly on edge. And it just goes to show you that an attraction doesn’t necessarily have to be big name and big budget to be scary and that the simplicity rules over complexity.
This was a really scary and enjoyable experience, would definitely recommended and this attraction in my view has great potential in the years to come. Great value for money.- Andy

Really great set up with enough car parking, a decent waiting area and little cafe for before we went round. The attraction itself was really well put together and the anticipation of not knowing what to expect in each room was HORRIBLE! The actors were great and I especially 'enjoyed' the ending. Well done Primrose Unknown Projects for another brilliant event. - Amy
