Phobophobia at The London Bridge Experience 2012
We have always been big fans of The London Bridge Experience (featuring the London Tombs) and were blown away by last year's Phobophobia extreme event. So when we heard a few weeks ago that the LBE had changed it's name, we were worried that this was the end of London's most extreme horror attraction. Fortunately, following some legal wrangling behind the scenes, the full attraction name and details were restored just before Halloween and the extreme show could still go ahead...
The evening extreme scare version of Phobophobia used both levels of the attraction but once again, we found that we spent less time upstairs than we did downstairs in The Tombs. Unlike the pitch darkness of 2011, there were more lights on upstairs and we weren't instructed to hang onto each other in the usual conga line. This was actually quite unnerving as due to some scared people in the small group we were batched with, we ended up doing the whole of the upstairs experience as group of 2 which was really quite scary.
The opening scene of this year's "upstairs" experience was particularly gruesome with some nasty projected images assaulting our senses while unseen actors attacked the room from all sides. It wasn't long after that we were being chased into the Tombs by a chainsaw wielding manic that had us all running.
Once downstairs we had the usual London Tombs experience but the number of actors and the impact of the scares had been ramped up significantly making it a truly terrifying trip through the darkness. The Human Centipede room from 2011 was still on display but a newer and darker doctor (with evil black eyes ) was waiting for us this time!
The London Tombs never fail to impress as the experience is so long and so detailed but at Halloween they really are something to behold With an increased cast and enthusiastic actors, it manages to do the impossible which is making something really scary, even scarier!
