Meet The Murderers - The Venue Selby
Meet the Murderers is the latest scare attraction at ‘The Venue’ based in the sleepy town of Selby. Though not that there would be much sleeping this night – after all – we all know what Freddy Kruger does to people in their sleep!
The night started off fairly quietly as we were the first to arrive, which gave us time to mingle with Professor Frankensteen! (Not Frankenstein) his little creepy mistress ‘Mrs Miggins’ and his two half dead assistants Number 6 and Number 7 (don’t ask what happened to 1 through 5!) Soon enough, we were was joined by other guests and after some Dutch courage and pies at the bar, we were seated and ready to see what lay in store for us.
Professor Frankensteen and Mrs Miggins told us about how they liked to collect weapons used by the world’s most notorious murderers, but also how they were fascinated with bringing the dead back to life. Or at least half way, and had devised a way that they could bring back the most horrific killers known to man… but sedate them enough so that we, the public, could meet them and not worry about us becoming their next victim. The highlight was introducing Hannibal Lecter by wheeling him in wearing his classic mask and straight jacket and just leaving him standing in front of the audience for the duration of the show. A nice touch, that truly left us feeling uneasy for the most part.
After introducing each villain and weapon to us all in a humorous fashion, including Mrs Lovett, whom later revealed that the pies we ate at the bar were in fact prepared by her own hands, things started to go a little wrong as it seemed the murderers had not been sedated enough and were becoming dangerous. So, it was up to us to make our way through Professor Frankensteen’s lab to escape!
Going through the lab was a mixture of claustrophobic hallways and very dark rooms with the various killers appearing from nowhere offering some good scares. The show probably could have benefitted for a couple more actors as a couple of the rooms seemed quite quiet in comparison. Despite that, it was a fun and frightful; night with many screams and laughs emanating around us!
A novelty, at the end of the show was when guests were able to ‘face their fears’ and meet the murderers and have their photos taken with them. While not a terrifying experience it was a fun night and we look forward to the next event which we have been reliably informed will be huge. Keep your eyes out for more from ‘The Venue’ very soon
