Haunted Live and Extreme - First review
Prior to it's official opening tonight, Stuart Kite went along to a preview performance of Haunted Live and Extreme in York. Created by the twisted brains behind Deranged, Killers Live and Hybrid X, the show takes place in what is meant to be York's most Haunted house.
This has to be the best location for a scare attraction yet. Tucked away off of York’s bustling Stonegate the attraction could be quite easy to miss if it wasn’t for the large “Haunted House this way” sign.
The building itself is very atmospheric with panelled walls, twisting staircase and hidden rooms. As we made our way through what seemed like about 10 rooms we experienced some good theming, great acting and several good startle scares.
The highlights were a brightly strobe lit mirror room which left us confused and hunting for an exit as well as a freaky séance with a very lively actress.
It was only afterwards that we learnt that the designers were subject to some very strict conditions in that the actors were not allowed to touch anything, bang the walls and for insurance purposes there was no smoke machine. With no additional lights, the route was very dark sometimes which created a great atmosphere
We had a good time in Haunted Live and Extreme but felt that at times there was a bit too much talking and not enough scares. For a show advertised as for strictly over 18’s we found is has a way to go to live up to it’s claim of “The Ultimate Haunted House Experience”
