Killers Live
The historic seaside town of Whitby is famous for a number of things. It’s the port where the fictional character of Dracula first landed in the UK. It holds the UK’s largest Goth weekends and is now home to a family of terrible killers called the Tormented 6!
The new show, Killers Live, was set up by GNG Entertainment following on the success of Deranged and Hybrid X in 2010. With that impressive track record, the new show had a lot to live up to. Fortunately we weren’t disappointed!
The attraction sat inside a very pleasant pub called the Shambles, located just next to the imposing Abbey. The team had taken over half of the pub and converted it into 7 very differently themed locations. The premise behind the show was that the serial killer family, the Tormented 6, had been housed inside a jail complex where members of the public would go and observe to see how killers acted when normal people were present. Of course, things don’t go according to plan!
On entering the attraction we were greeted by a security officer inside a dark office who explained they were experiencing a power cut, but that there was nothing to worry about. The usual scare attraction speech was delivered in a very entertaining manor and the actor playing the security guard played their part very well. We were then ushered into the first room.
The following rooms were all then a bit of a blur as we stumbled through crazy scenes, wild actors and some really intense smoke and darkness. Along the way we witnessed, a girl being pulled away to be slaughtered, voodoo dolls, razor wire, loads of killers and a satanic altar. Not that we had much time to look at the scenery as every room was populated by freaky and bizarre “killers” who were all looking to murder us in more and more grotesque and imaginative ways !

Two standouts of the whole experience were the Ouija board scene which mixed horror with dark humour as a one of our party was subjected to spelling out rude words on the Ouija, and the amazing looking “razor room”. This place was lit by green lights, filled with smoke and contained an obstacle course of barbwire literally hanging and strung from every surface, wall, ceiling panel and prop. It made the room VERY difficult to navigate and the 2 killers used the space very well to produce some great startle scares.
As our tour came to a conclusion, it was time for an old scare attraction favourite - the strobe room! What made this one fun was the death metal Gregorian monk chant soundtrack that was especially composed for the show. So refreshing to hear exciting new music and sounds being developed instead of the same old effects that seem to get recycled time and time again.
The urgency of the final room left all of us racing for the final door through the fog only to stumble outside into the bar much to the enjoyment of the public enjoying a cold beer!
Overall, Killers Live was a great attraction and was proving REALLY popular with the visiting Goths as well as many of the locals. In fact the show was so popular that the team have reopened it again this weekend. So if you are nearby and are looking for a quality fun scare this weekend – the show will be open until 10 pm on Sunday April 3rd!
