FEAR: Brighton - Review
Since opening earlier this year, Fear Brighton has made quite
a name for itself as being an exciting well themed maze with lots of scares. Therefore
it was obvious we would visit it again at Halloween when they are promoting that
‘the fear and fun factor both get turned to maximum!’
When we arrived, the atmosphere around the venue was certainly different to normal. Having been an old school for Victorian girls, the building itself already has an eerie feel to it but a stall had been set up outside, with apple bobbing and an unlucky dip to add a touch of traditional Halloween fun. A stilt walker in spooky dress and make-up was also roaming around, interacting with people walking by, and encouraging them to pluck up courage and enter. We, of course, needed no encouragement!
We visited as a group of 3 and after listening to the routine health & safety talk, were surprised to find we were batched as just one small group on our own - there was going to be no hiding place for us! Having only been through recently, we were on the lookout for any changes to differentiate the Halloween event but eventually spent most of the time jumping and screaming. The actors certainly seemed livelier and a lot more enthusiastic than before and were really throwing themselves into their roles. As per usual, the show was a mix of different themes and elements which don’t combine to create one cohesive storyline but did provide a lot of good quality scares!
The dark corridors between each scene helped build tension as we would get a flicker of relief that we had just managed to escape one room, quickly replaced as apprehension kicked in as to what was behind the next door!
The actors genuinely seemed to be everywhere, and we couldn’t always predict where they would come hurtling from next! The number of them, and their energy was probably the biggest difference over the original show that we spotted. Also, probably more so than before, some parts of the maze were extremely dark. At times we really had to feel around to work out where to go next which would create a feeling of panic as we tried to find our way out - the blinding strobe lights in certain sections probably didn’t help either!

In our last review we said how good the event was and this time round we wondered how they could top it with Extreme Scream. Now we have seen the full show, we can confirm that there are no major infrastructure changes BUT with a few tweaks the team have managed to make it even more frightening with more actors around every corner! If you are in Brighton this Halloween and you love to be scared then Fear Brighton is ideal for you!

Overall, I think the attraction is a great addition to the City and I hope that awareness of it continues to grow. I was happy that it was part of my extensive Halloween itinerary and our group definitely stumbled out of the last room laughing & recommending others to experience it for themselves.
