Cursed 2014
Now in it's second year in Basildon, Cursed is an event that boasts 8 attractions set in acres of darkened woodland. The event follows the timed entry concept where guests arrive in time for their slot, and then proceed to do one long walk round all 8 attractions, one after the other. It works well for minimising queue times but does lessen the atmosphere of a busy scream park as most of the time the only people you see are those in your group (and the wild and crazy creatures attacking you).
Uncle Tyler's WorkChop!
This is the first maze of the event and gets everything off to a good start. With it's butcher theming, half eaten survivors and lively actors it was well decorated and the corridors were tight and narrow, meaning we had to get up close and dirty with some of the inhabitants. The maze is a short sharp shock to the senses and had us jumping throughout.
CarnEvil!
As we waited to enter CarnEVIL we could hear our names being called out from the darkness. It turned out that one particularly evil clown had followed us from a previous Halloween event and proceeded to terrorise us throughout! The maze itself was a mix of colourful scenes, blood thirsty clowns and some disorientating rooms where we struggled to find the right way out. At one point several groups were going round and round trying to escape the curtains while the clowns taunted us mercilessly. Good scary fun!
Pig Pen
The Pig Pen is an outdoor maze created out of Heras security fencing. The fact that we could see the actors, was just a frightening as not, as they were very loud and excitable - banging and throwing things against the fence to create lots of and distractions. This was probably the weakest of the "mazes" yet still had us jumping at times!
The Mine
The Mine has a great façade and the twisting layout and tunnels inside helped create the impression we were actually lost in a dark mine. This maze was very dark in places and included the massive claustrophobia tunnel used in previous mazes. Those of us at the front of our group thoroughly enjoyed the maze and had a number of good scares. Our colleagues at the back of the line were less impressed as they kept hearing us scream but then never saw what had attacked us. The final room is The Mine was a clever "find the right door to escape" scenario and the idea of opening all the coffins leaning against the walls while looking for a door was ingenious
The Graveyard and Field of Screams
Between several of the attractions there were some quite long walks through very dark woodland. Following a dimly lit trail of glow sticks we encountered a number of different freaks and ghouls at different times. It was better than just a long walk with nothing happening but to be honest it would be hard for us to differentiate which attraction was which.
Broth Hell
Built in a marquee - Broth Hell was the most complete looking attraction from the outside, with an impressive house/hotel façade that we entered through. Once inside the "hotel" we were required to check into our rooms and cleverly we were separated and had to experience parts of the maze on our own. Once back together we passed through many scenes in the hotel all populated with some great actors who had some interesting hiding points and a habit of appearing from no-where. The path way through seemed particularity twisted and both this and Cell 13 felt like the best and longest 2 mazes of the event.
Cell 13
Once again, Cursed has saved the best for last. Cell 13 is a dark, sometimes strobe lit, extremely noisy and constantly scary maze that left us struggling to escape. The maze design was impressive and added with some of the imaginative hiding places, it seemed like the actors were coming at us from all angles. There also seemed to be so many of them. Either this maze employed a great number of actors or they were just very good at using the cut-throughs to keep constantly attacking. There wasn't one dead spot in the entire maze - a feat that many more expensive mazes failed to deliver.
Cursed is clearly a labour of love for all concerned and it is easy to see the passion for scare that the creative team have put into the event Despite the two outdoor attractions being a bit "lost" in translation, the indoor mazes more than made up for it and the diverse range of stories from mad butchers through to deranged prison inmates made sure that each maze was different in its own right. The whole event takes about an hour from start to finish, which feels about right. Any shorter and we would have felt short changed and any longer we would have moaned about the long walks. As it is we had a fun time with some quality scares throughout - what more could we ask for?

Carn evil was a great maze. Had us in there for ages trying to get out with every turn looking the same and Mr Tickles was scary.
Pig pen was noisy and scary, pig noises made us jump us jump
Loads.
Graveyard was great .. Got very jumpy in there ..
The mines was just like real mine( not that we have been in one) . Didn't like the squeeze very much made me feel like was being re born.. Barrels made us scream when rolled down towards us.. Very dark tunnels was great .. A miner came out from no where from the smoke. Made us scream and heart race.. Mades us run to another tunnel where we got another scare from screams which made us scream .. Ended in a room full of coffins.. Loved it.
Broth hell was very spooky didn't know what was coming round the corner.. Lots of turns and hiding places where we got caught out .. And yet Again screamed.. Cell 13 amazing .. Dark noisy getting jumped out on .. Strobe was good affect . Tight turns made our hearts race..
Scare walkers where awesome tried to brave it but ended up running from a guy who looked like a zombie looking Joker..
Looks like cursed made lot better than last year..
Price was well worth it all..
Would go back again.
