Circus of Horrors 2013 - The Curse of the Devil Doll
The time has come for another draw dropping sadistic instalment of the sickest Circus in the country - The Circus of Horrors. The 2013 show brings back some well loved acts with slightly different routines with circus acts, a dash of gore, a measure of magic and rock, all combined with a pinch of nudity to create a cocktail of horrific entertainment.
Now in its 17th year, the Circus of Horrors have gone on to tour the world and in doing so have dragged circus screaming and shouting into the 21st century. It has clearly developed a cult status, with hardcore fans attending the show year after year as well as new members who where just excited to see the finalists of Britain's Got Talent!
The Curse Of the Devil Doll is a sequel to last years tour 'The Ventriloquist' and loosely follows the story of the dummy that all the characters hate and despise. Set in Vampire Vaudeville, the Demon Dummy deals deadly demands upon the cast, pushing them to find out if the dummy has a mind of its own, or if it is controlled by something more sinister.
The show, in essence, follows the same structure as previous tours. We loosely follow the story whilst visiting sections of each performers act. Circus of Horrors make sure we see what we want to see and shoves it right down our throats with sword swallowing, sadistic acrobatics and contortionism. Why not add in some nudity to add that sexy edge too as well as the COH band who range from hardcore rock to slow atmospheric music. The diversity of the band really makes the show as heart pounding and entertaining as it is.
Dr Haze and his freaks have real passion for the show and their acts, going to greater lengths to make what they do as entertaining as possible. The use of pyro and lighting really adds to each and every spectacle, and these performers add more danger to their acts by actually attaching fireworks to themselves!
We have been reviewing COH for a number of years now and we have come across many of the acts before. This being said, the entertainment factor still remains as high as it ever was with many audience members still cringing and squealing during the show. The only downside to tonight's performance was one particular scene that relied too much on UV lighting, yet we sometimes struggled to see the action due to the low level of lighting. It was almost as if a light bulb needed replacing! All other scenic factors however, complimented the show greatly.
We got exactly what we expected from the Circus of Horrors: entertainment, cringe worthy moments along with some fun scares and jolts. There's still some time to see the show, with tour dates around the country. So if you want to scream, shout, laugh and hide, this is the show for you. Just be warned, you may never look at a Henry Hoover in the same way again!
