Circus of Horrors: The Four Chapters From Hell Review
The UK's favourite anarchic circus are back once more for an adrenalin fuelled journey into the twisted imagination of the immortal Dr Haze. The new show covers the best of recent tours and comes togeher in a bombastic display of rock bravado, gore and sights you'll never forget. This, is Circus of Horrors....
Let's start by stating the obvious - The Circus of Horrors isn't high art in any way shape or form. It clearly wears its heart on its sleeve and does exactly what it says on the tin. It is loud, brash, often rude and sometimes difficult to watch, but it is bloody good fun mixed in with some really outstanding circus style acts. So for every graceful balletic style acrobat routine that blows you away there is then a laugh out loud or gross moment to remind you where you are!
The current show is a sort of "best of" from the last few tours and contains a mix of new and existing acts connected very loosely through a sort of story. To be honest though -the locations and story are irrelevant to the stunts on display. Most people are here for the spectacle and the circus certainly delivers that in bucket fulls. The acts are a mix of genuine freakiness alongside true graceful and powerful circus performances. So whereas one man may be lifting heavy weights off the ground by a hook through his nose the next minute we may have a breathtaking aerial routine.
As well as the true circus style acts that added a real class to the proceedings, Dr Haze lords over the performances in an outrageously over the top ringmaster. With an obvious love for gore and rock music, Haze and his live band, integrate his own songs into the show. Maybe the venue have improved their sound but this year, the vocals from Haze were much clearer than in previous versions of the show.
To say much more about the show would give the game away. There are certain acts that really do rely on the shock factor and its better sometimes not to know what’s going to happen. At certain points throughout the auditorium, people could be seen squirming almost with disgust at what they were watching, yet laughing out loud the next minute as a midget does something obscene with a vacuum cleaner!
Be warned though. Wholesome family fun this isn’t. But it IS fun. Lots of fun – and you can clearly see that the cast are enjoying it as much as the audience. So if you are looking for some light dismemberment, nudity, rock n roll, blood and some amazing circus style acts then we why not pay them a visit? Just don’t say we didn’t warn you!

We have reviewed Circus of Horrors a number of times and can highly recommend the show to anyone with a taste for high energy spectacle mixed with incredible circus acts and a splattering of gore. Wholesome family fun this isn’t. But it IS fun. Lots of fun!
