The Crash of the Elysium - Wolsley Theatre - Ipswich
The Crash of the Elysium is a one hour theatrical performance that is set inside the scary world of Doctor Who. The creators are being deliberately vague about what to expect inside the show as they really do not want to give away any of the surprises and plot twists. Tom MacRae, writer and co-creator of The Crash of the Elysium said: “The show is unlike anything else you have ever experienced in the world of Doctor Who. This is your story, your mission, you are the hero. Everything depends on you. If you don’t turn up, the world does not get saved"
The show is based on an original idea by Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat, and the team have drafted in Punchdrunk theatre to help them realise their vision. Punchdrunk are famous for their edgy performances that take people out of their conmfort zone an with the addition of "After Dark performances for ages 13+ we can only hope that the scary world of Doctor Who is about to get scarier!
We had an exclusive chat with Tom Mcrae to find out more, but not surprisingly his answers were a little cagey! They really do want us to go into this with little or no knowldege of what is going to happen.....

ScareTOUR:without giving too much away - what is the basic idea behind The Crash of the Elysium?
Tom Mcrae: To create the most amazing hour any child has ever experienced in their lives EVER!
ST: How was the concept first created?
TM: Punchdrunk love Doctor Who and approached the BBC who then teamed them up with me and together we created this amazing show
ST: Do you feel the interactive nature of the show is a better storytelling device than a TV or theatrical performance?
TM:The two mediums are very different, in this show this is your story, your mission, you are the hero. Everything depends on you. If you don’t turn up, the world does not get saved.
ST: How does the show fit within the canon of Doctor Who stories or is it a completely stand alone adventure?
TM: It's a stand alone story but happens somewhere between the events of series 5 and Series 6.
ST:The show has three different age ranges. Doctor who is inherently scary to children but how will you ramp up the scares between the children's show and the After Dark shows?
TM:You'll have to come along and see!
ST: A Performance of The Crash of the Elysium was performed in Manchester last year - have you had to change much to fit in with the latest venue?
TM:We're literally in the middle of figuring all that out at the moment but the basic experience will be the same
ST: Any plans to take this on tour to other towns?
TM: All I can say is...keep your ears and eyes open! You never know!
As you can see - really not giving much away but then that's going to be half the fun of experiencing the show!
