Silent Hillside - Take the Exit
With the country on Lockdown, more and more escape rooms are finding ways to keep their business afloat. Some are offering virtual tele-conference facilities, whilst some are offering downloadable or online games. Take the Exit have created a spooky themed game that is aimed at 1 to 2 players. With that in mind we quickly set up a Zoom call and launched the game.
Obviously being online, the usual search and investigate phase of regular escape rooms is missing, and the quest to find out why the main protagonist has just received a letter from his dead wife, is played out across 10 mini puzzles that require a code or answer to progress.
What wasn't immediately obvious was the format that solutions had to be entered in, for example in one puzzle we added everything up to get one three digit number, where what we actually needed was the three different numbers places side by side ie giving us 9 digit number. This wasn't clear, and as it was impossible to go back to the puzzle once on a password screen - there was a little frustration as we tried different combinations. Editors note - this was the first day of play and the authors have taken our advise on board which should be reflected in later versions.
As with any escape room, hints are available in the provided game guide, and if players are genuinely stuck - there is a a full answer sheet to allow them to progress through the game in the absence of a games master or host.
All in, Take the Exit are only selling this online experience for £5.99 which is a bargain for an hours worth of entertainment. We completed it in 38 minutes as a team of two and enjoyed the storytelling and game play throughout. So why not grab a friend and check out the mystery of Silent Hillside? It's certainly a lot more fun than watching daytime TV whilst we are all in quarantine!

I have just enjoyed the game silent hillside. I thought it was a really thought out and clever game and amazing challenges throughout. I had some hints along the way and it was a lovely experience that i would do again and again.
Our family aged 7-39 hugely enjoyed this creepy little escape room and managed to forget covid 19 for a whole 58 minutes!
The puzzles are varied and helped every member of our family use their various talents to find the clues.
