The Dive at Wax Cave - Preview
The Dive at Wax cave is the first experience from Stormjar Studio and was presented at the Encounters Film Festival in Bristol for a trial season. As this was just a preview of the experience - we will keep our review brief as we understand the show is still in development.
The show itself takes the format of an audio story, but where this differs to many other experiences such as Darkfield, is that the vocal was live in the room and instead of complete darkness. An individual lighting gantry above each reclined participant, helped to create a suitably atmospheric and dream like quality.
It took a while to get used to the setup (laying on the floor staring at an illuminated display), but as the mysteries of the Dive washed over us - it was easy to drift off into an hypnotic state, as we dived deeper into the cave deep below the ocean's surface.
Although not a full on scare experience, The Dive at Wax Cave does pervade your consciousness and provided an unnerving experience that left us questioning our reality and our memories. For a show that relied on darkness and some ambient lighting effects - the overall question for all participants is what did they personally see inside Wax Cave? So, what did we see? Well that would be too personal to share here, and shall remain locked deep under water - never to surface again!
