Zombie Bus Dublin - Preview
Like any major City, Dublin has always had a number of tourist bus tours, and these have ranged from historical sightseeing through to themed buses serving pints of Guinness whilst telling ghost stories. A few years ago we experienced the original Ghost Bus tour, which used an old routemaster bus that had been completely redesigned inside to create a suitably spooky atmosphere.
Jump forward a few years and the team behind the Ghost Bus are back with a brand new experience - the Zombie Bus, and as you can see in the pictures below, no effort has been spared in re-theming both the internal and external elements of the vehicle.
But what exactly is the show? It hasn't officially started running yet but the bus will operate with several live actors who will set up the story and prepare guests for the upcoming apocalypse. Along the way, special effects and sounds will propel guests into the action and will include a live walk through element and a number of surprises.
Without providing too many spoilers, passengers will soon find themselves back on the bus and here is where the virtual reality element will kick in. Guests will be asked to put on VR helmets that have been designed to look like gas masks. Like any VR - these need to quickly be initialised and then the VR show can begin,
We had a full run through of the VR whilst sat on the bus, and we must say it is genuinely very good. The VR was clearly filmed on the same bus, so it is immediately obvious where we are, and as the action unfolded, it was accompanied by live dialogue, effects, sounds, tactile elements and more, that genuinely made us feel that the action on our helmet screens was really happening. There was a genuine thrill to be had from this experience and it was easily some of the best horror VR we have seen in an attraction. Not bad, as we only experienced this during a technical rehearsal, but there were several moments where we either jumped or flinched away from an attacking zombie on the screen (note these were real actors on a real bus and not some computer graphic simulation)
Having just seen the bus and experienced the VR finale, we really cant wait to experience the whole show in its entirety. Talking to the team afterwards - it is clear they are passionate in creating something different and we have no doubt that this will be the most immersive and scary bus tour in Dublin.
