York Dungeon Lates 2014
Darkness, evil and fear awaits you at the York Dungeons. History from long ago comes to life and tells you how we lived, how we suffered and how we died. Dare you enter and see our inhumane past? Well ScareTOUR dared! Invited to attend an extreme version of the Dungeons with a cocktail to calm the nerves before entering how could we pass up the opportunity?
Waiting outside we wondered what extra horrors were in store for us. Escorted inside by a devilishly charming court jester we had our 'blood axe' cocktails and entered into the first room which was the newly installed Henry VIII (see Tyrannical Tudors review below). Very enjoyable but still no sign of Henry and his big chopper! (pun intended!)
We then entered into updated plague room which was a big improvement from previously - just watch out for the leeches! We proceeded through the rest of the dungeons as normal and despite feeling slightly rushed through the final show we thoroughly enjoyed it.
However we did notice that there was very little difference between the normal Dungeon and extreme Dungeon. We had expected more jump scares in the corridors or something else, but the show remained the same mix of humour and history with a splattering of horror. Perhaps one or two extra scares would be an idea for next time. Even so, full compliments and top marks to be given to all the actors but especially the ones in Turpin, Labyrinth and the Golden Fleece.
The concept of Dungeon Lates is something that we could see expand in the future especially if the venue leaned towards a few more more scares. Even so It was a great place to chill out after work and the free cocktail before our journey started the evening off well.
