Wonderland Halloween Evening Extravaganza

Wonderland is a fairytale land hidden away amongst Telford's Town Park and finest Gardens. However, at Halloween the fairy tales become far more Grimm, and the creatures of the night come out to play. Wonderland's target audience of young children means they have to be careful how scary they can be and the line up over the past 6 years have included the Winter Village Haunted houses with not much else. However, Wonderland decided two years ago that something new was needed and introduced the 'Maze Of Screams' to heighten the scare factor.

Winter Village Haunted Houses

The Winter Village house are based around the tradition of Trick or Treating and each house is home to a lovable but spooky character. From Dracula to Witches, there was a great host of characters to keep the children entertained when collecting their treats. We must really commend Wonderland for the actors in these houses as with great characterisation and speeches they were actually making each and every child
feel special even though the place was extremely busy.

Maze of Screams

The Maze of Screams is set within an actual hedge maze on the top site of Wonderland - a perfect location for a scare attraction. So, was the maze actually full of screams? Uncomfortably, no. The first character we met was fantastic as they explained exactly what the maze would consist of for an audience who had probably never experienced a scare attraction before. Unfortunately the other characters we met within the maze just didn't seem to have the energy to scare or barely interact with us. This is a dreadful shame considering such great
experiences through Maze of Screams by our readers in previous years.

Wonderland has great atmosphere at Halloween. With unlimited rides and soft play areas for children it really is a great destination for families. However, the Halloween line-up just didn't live up to previous years. The absence of the usual Spooky Disco stage show and fire shows left a big hole in Wonderland's arsenal of Halloween tricks. The park also felt slightly understaffed. More roaming characters and more staff within the shops and food outlets where obviously needed.

Despite the under par Maze of Screams and slight staffing issues, Wonderland Halloween Evening Extravaganza is still a great event for families with young children. After speaking to management, we understand that the staff issue was rectified for the next. We where also informed that the 'Maze of Screams' has a new artistic director compared to previous years. But again, changes where made for the next evening.

All in all Wonderland is great for families with young children at Halloween, we just felt that this year unfortunately did not live up to previous years.
