Halloween Fright Nights at Walibi Holland
Please note this is an unedited version from our German correspondent so please excuse any language or grammatical differences!
The annual Halloween Fright Nights at Walibi Holland were this year in its 14th edition. And this year was even bigger, greater, louder and better than last year. The Scare Zone Campsite of Carnage and the maze Jefferson Manor were the new haunted attractions this year. The other haunted attractions were like last year. That means Haunted Holidays, The Villa and Psychoshock. Main character of this event is clown "Eddie“ who is more and more as famous as a star in the Netherlands.
Furthermore this event is perhaps one of the most american-like Halloween events in Europe because of its mazes, which all work like in America with tons of scare buttons and the scare actors have clear instructions what to do and acting liberties are (unfortunately?) not given, but nonetheless the quality of the acting is really high and even after two or three times still very good.
Haunted Holidays:
In this Haunted House you experience (with 3D glases as well) every holiday of the year like Christmas, Carnival or Thanksgiving. The theming of this maze is superb and very detailed , which is the trademark of this event in general. The scare-level in this maze is, compared to the other mazes, the lowest but it still has its intense moments like a certain Christmas tree, which let you really jump. Even though I would say it’s in the 4th place of all mazes , it’s one of the best maze I know.
Psychoshock:
This maze is located on an half isle, so you have to walk over a bridge to get to the maze. Inside the maze some mad doctors await you and introduce you into the maze. The feeling in the first room is a bit like Germany’s black chapter but nonetheless very authentic and well made. The next rooms are a treatment Room, which have some really good scares and a prison like passage. The theming of the maze in general is again really good and compared to the other maze in 3rd Place concerning the scares and the setting in general.
The Villa:
Old but still gold is a good description of this maze, because it is the oldest maze, which still operates every year since 2010. (maybe 2014 was the last year? I don’t know) Regardless of the age it is still one of the highlights of this event. Well-known horro classics like „Scream“, „Saw“ or „the Exorcist“ are shown and the scares are just one of the most intense moments of this event. (only Jefferson Manor overbids that) Last year it was the best maze I’ve ever visited until Jefferson Manor came....
Jefferson Manor: (New 2014)
And Jefferson really made me speechless. Even after three weeks now I have to laugh when I think about the maze. Nothing what I’ve seen before was as good as this maze. The creativity of the Haunted House is nearly unbeatable. Or did you ever saw a scare actor, who fly over the ground and the heads of the visitor? Or a scare actor who is under a glass ground? There are so many „Wow“ or „Oh my god“ moments in this maze that you are really sad , when the 7 minutes walkthrough are over. The theming is the best of the whole event by far. The only advise that I can give is to visit this maze, because I think it’s one of the maze highlights of Europe, even if I don’t know every maze of Europe.
Campsite of Carnage: (New 2014)
The only for free maze of the event, which you could compare to an english scare zone, because it’s outside and goes through a forest. But nonetheless the scares shouldn’t be underestimated. The scares here are a bit different because the concept of this haunted attraction is different: The scare actors have more liberties and that made every walkthrough different. The theming is good as well but a bit less detailed (maybe because it’s outside) if you compare it to the upcharge attractions. Nevertheless it’s worth visiting though.
But the Haunted Attractions are not everything, which is important to mention. The scare zones are really well done and atmospheric as well. (like you can see on the pictures) Even scares shouldn’t be underestimated there. I had tons of scares during the night and I don’t think I’m a very easy victim.
To complete the offer of Walibi’s Fright Nights there is a major show on the stage in front of the ferris wheel. Unfortunately I couldn’t understand it because it’s dutch, but the effects are very impressive. The use of fire in general is very high as well, which really creates a „hot“ atmosphere.
All in all the Halloween Fright Nights are the best event I know by far, because you couldn't critizise anything, perhaps the crowds but it’s just understandable that it’s so crowded. If you want an emptier park, I would advise everybody to go early in the October, because the more you get to Halloween the fuller it gets.
