ValenTerror: House of Zombies at Scare Kingdom Scream Park
Scare Kingdom has become well known for its immersive year-round scare offering on the otherwise tranquil Mrs Downson’s Ice Cream farm. When we heard that Scare Kingdom were putting on a Valentines event; Valenterror, we were quickly excited to see their unique twist on an otherwise fluffy based holiday - we were not disappointed.
Upon arrival, the lights within the general area were very dim, making our journey to the entrance suitably tense. We checked in to be greeted by a large gathering of other guests waiting their turn to visit the farm. Initially we thought the groups would be large, but quickly realised that we would be heading in groups of only two. After a quick briefing, we were met by the local grave digger ‘Dougie’ who introduced the Zombie issues that the farm were currently facing. He explained that they had contained them to one barn and informed us that for unexplainable reasons, someone had decided to turn the lights off and they could no longer turn them back on. Dougie really set the scene and we were pleased to see that Scare Kingdom were creating a story based attraction, rather than relying solely on the increasingly cliché Zombie scares.
Upon entering the barn itself, we realised how utterly dark it was inside and how much we would be relying on our glowstick to guide us through the house. The usual high level of theming, music and acting were prevalent throughout the attraction, with a fantastic group based double actor scare towards the end that really took us by surprise. The actors cleverly used the darkness and shadows created by the glowstick to their advantage, allowing them to land some terrifying scares with absolute precision.
The event itself had an additional charge for Snuffhouse, with the ever more eluding snuffette creating custom in her unique way. We declined her invitation this time around, but hear the house is as intense as ever.
We were very impressed with what Scare Kingdom had put together in a time that is very much out of the scare calendar. We look forward to experiencing the year that Scare Kingdom has planned including their Walpurgis: Half Way to Halloween event.
