Edith by Unescapable Derby
Seeing as room escapes are all about puzzles and riddles, we thought we would start this review off with a question - "When is a room escape adventure NOT just a room escape adventure?" The answer? When it is called "Edith" and combines room escape puzzles with scares more akin to a standard scare attraction!
As always, we knew very little before entering the time portal to our destination, and it really is the best way to experience this absolutely stunning experience. As the clock started ticking we set about the usual hunt for clues and puzzles, and like any good room escape - some were harder than others. The challenges themselves were a great mix of puzzles, a few locks, but also a lot of practical tricks that made us feel totally engaged with the room.
It was also scary - there were definitely some strange noises coming from the locked wardrobe in the corner and the lights had a habit of plunging us into unexpected darkness just when we needed them. Of course this was all just the build up, and towards the end of the experience we were all screaming, jumping, and running away from something mysterious. Never in a room escape have we been so genuinely terrified that we struggled to continue the story and solve the clues.
These scenes were definitely more like something out of a scare attraction and we hate to think how funny we must have looked to the watching gamemaster! Fortunately we all individually managed to face our fears and we worked as a team to solve the final puzzle and escape the room with a few minutes spare! We all tumbled back out into the foyer breathless, slightly trembling, but ecstatic that we had managed to beat Edith.
Everything about this room was so well done. The sets were impressive, the puzzles were ingenious and the pacing left us on our toes from beginning to end. Well done to everyone involved in creating such a stunningly scary experience. If you haven't visited Edith , then we suggest you book yourself in very soon. You definitely wont regret it!
