Trapped in a Room with a Zombie
In recent years, room escape attractions have become quite big business. Lock some strangers in a room together and see if they can work out how to escape. Throw in some cryptic clues and it's the perfect recipe for a fun team building event. Of course, the team at Room Escape Adventures have added one extra thing to the mix - a flesh hungry zombie on a chain that steadily gets longer and longer. Easy right? That's what we thought.
The key thing about these events is you have no idea what the challenges inside might prove to be. Once the door is shut and locked behind you then its all about working together and trying to solve whatever is in front of you. The first few minutes were a frantic dash around the room checking out everything that wasn't nailed down (and some things that were!). As we looked in more and more obscure places, there was something stupid that none of us had actually realised - there wasn't actually a zombie to be seen! So when we did actually discover it, it gave this reviewer a great startle scare! It then spent the remaining hour terrorising us as we tried to solve all the clues.
We really don't want to give anything away but the clues and tasks were a combination of dexterity, verbal reasoning and observation. Different tasks played to different people's skills and abilities and the only way to truly survive was to work closely with everyone in the group to solve some of the more complicated issues.
This wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for that ever present zombie on a chain that got longer and longer the more time we spent inside. By the end of the game we had the smallest of margin of error around the room to avoid the zombie and were working together as a team to distract it while someone was solving the latest problem.
Fortunately none of our team were touched by the zombie but if they had, they would have been required to sit out the rest of the show and just offer assistance from afar. We can imagine that in a larger group with less "space" to escape, that a few of the teams end up infected. As it was - we often ended up grouped together, strangers hugging each other to stay close and avoid infection.
With no plan or direction of what to do next, the show relies on you working out the clues and moving forward under your own steam. We solved different puzzles at different times but soon started to see the pattern and what we were aiming for. In fact, if it wasn't for a very temperamental battery operated toy, we would have got the final combination and actually escaped the room. As it was - we ended up as zombie bait!
Having done so many different scare events and zombie attractions, we really weren't sure what to expect from Trapped and the event totally blew us away. It was funny, challenging, scary, puzzling and exhilarating all in one. Not bad for just two actors and 1 small room!
We would highly recommended for everyone!
