The Search For Emily
The Search for Emily is a joint venture between Davey Jones SFX and Stage Door Productions, both of which are local o Liverpool' and is set in the stunning 16th Century Croxteth Hall. The building itself is creepy enough at nighttime, so we were very excited to see what the team had in store for us.
Our evening started in a bar area, where we were picked up by our host and tour guide. As we ventured into the low lit house, it became apparent that the attraction is sort of a mix of genres. Part history tour, part ghost hunt, and part scare attraction, The Search for Emily blended all three together in a 40 minute walking tour. We enjoyed the mix of different elements as it kept us on edge throughout not knowing what to expect.
The tour is made by the excellent surroundings and the building is used to its full potential - the darkness seemed to scream at us from every corner and we were encouraged to report any "goings on" we encountered throughout the evening. As with any event of this type - our nerves were more on edge due to the allegedly real "ghosts" in the building. Was the orb that we saw in one of the rooms, a special effect, a ghost, or just our mind playing tricks on us?
Our guide was very informative throughout but unfortunately we felt that the story element - ie the search for Emily could have been ramped up a bit more. With more details about our search, we probably would have been more prepared for the big surprise ending. It was totally unexpected and a really fantastic finale. The team pulled off a number of very unique effects that had the whole group screaming.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening, and everyone in our group had a great time. Certainly the screams ringing out around the venue were testament to the fact that everyone experienced some good scares. Definitely worth checking out when it returns later this year.
