The Pit at Horrorcon
Horrrorcon is a brand new convention for Horror Film Fans that was held at the Magna Science centre in Sheffield. Amongst the opportunities to meet and greet some famous faces from the horror movie genre, stands selling horror merchandise and a programme of talks, one corner of the venue had been taking over by the Pit
Now, horror films and scare attractions share the same ingredients of tension, blood, screams and terror but the two clearly are rather different, with with attractions really bringing things to life. You would think scare fans would enjoy both but the void between the two appears to be a rather grey area. Throughout our day we were surprised to discover that many horror fans had actually never set foot in a scare attraction. So PUP Events had plenty of willing victims ready to find out exactly what they are missing out on!
The Pit made its return at HorrorCON. Set in a corner of the huge Magna Science centre, the façade looks even more impressive than it did last year at Wooley Edge October Screams. This time there was less of a story as its sister attraction The Barn wasn’t at the event but The attraction managed to live up to our expectations all alone. Oh, and we were alone!
We entered the maze where we received our safety briefing and were instantly double hooded. We were then told to simply follow the rope. The double hood works well as we constantly criticize certain hooded mazes because you can sometimes see through them, making them near obsolete. PUP make sure you cannot see anything, making the overall experience even more terrifying.
The Pit was longer than its Halloween incarnation and seemed to use many more actors. Each actor was great and bought individuality to each section. Acting in a hooded maze is no easy feat but the PUP team seem to do it so well.
The Pit will be making its return along with the Scar Awarded EVAC at the UUOP Haunted Hangout at the National Emergency Services Museum in Sheffield on 26th September 2015.
