The House of S
As their marketing said “what happens when two worlds collide?” GNG Entertainment and PUP Events joined forces to create The House of Sutcliffe. “The museum featured wax figures of the rich and famous of the day including such prestigious figures as Barry Sheen, Russ Abbott, Bob Carolgees and Rod Hull and guests would queue for hours to have their photos taken against the lifelike replicas.”
PUP and GNG, both have a reputation for creating unusual and different attractions but even we were a little unsure about this new attraction being so specific about things such as wax works of people like Russ Abbott.
The attraction had been built in what appeared to be an old abandoned shed/outhouse. It was dirty and rundown and the exterior had a very foreboding presence. Entering the first room the receptionist of the museum, complete with a live rat, gave us the story of the museum and its history and told us to pick a card that would determine our fate. Three cards, three doors, three routes. We scuffled through the same door though; safety in numbers!
We’re not sure how long we were in the House of S, maybe between 15 and 25 minutes, but from start to finish we met a range of actors who sprung to life and played with us in their detailed sets. Each set was quite unique, and different to the last and the actors worse some really effective costumes and make up.
It wasn’t over yet. Although the three different routes lead to the same finale to culminate the story, the creators of the House of S made us do the other two routes and we are really pleased that they did. We would have otherwise missed two different segments that again had great actors and completely different sets and scenes that gave us great entertainment.
Thankfully we didn’t see wax works of Barry, Russ or Bob coming to life, not sure the teenagers going through before us would even know who they were.
What we did see though was a brilliant little maze full of staff who just wanted to terrorise us The venue will now become home to the House of Detention and will host a Christmas scare event in December....
