My hubby and I visited The Canterbury Tales on 31/10/14. It was amazingly funny and also informative. The 4 actors, 3 guys, 1 girl, and my husband and I laughed from start to finish! Our tour of the church was full of screams, jumps and bumps, and had us laughing so hard and the screaming girlie's in our group. It was just brilliant! A well deserved 5 stars! The monk cider was good too, bought a bottle and got pickled - thank you!
As part of the International Festival they staged Terrible Tales in the evening in the garden of the building. The players performed four canterbury tales and with no props other than a cap, a cape, a wig or two and a balloon on a stick. They were excellent. Three guys and a girl acting all the parts, changing accents, manners and almost shape shifting before our eyes, very entertaining. Then we were taken 'From London to Canterbury on a pilgrimage, but beware the Black Death has arrived' We were split up and then, no that would spoil it - go and see for yourself.
'The Terrible Tales' was a brilliant evening. Geoffrey Chaucer's more gruesome stories where adapted and brought alive by actors, who remaining in true Chaucerian style combined salacious wit with clever rhyme and managed to make it accessible and appealing to all audiences (above 12 as specified). The entertaining outdoor theatre performance (In a graveyard) was was not just hilarious and interactive but it was accompanied by a bar providing local ales and warmed spiced cider. After the show we where split into groups and taken through a terrifying horror walk through Canterbury's plague ridden streets with hidden (infected) actors jumping out combined with sounds, sights and smells this was an evening to remember. I cannot recommend this enough this Halloween!
