Spooky World - 2012 Review
With a new maze for 2012, and an extended halloween run, Spooky World is back for another year of fear.
Spooky World is located at Apple Jacks Farm near Warrington, and already has a large infrastructure of buildings, attractions and toilets to work with. At Halloween, the whole park is decorated with some incredible theming and lit with strange colours which creates a great atmosphere from the moment you enter. Scattered around the park are the four signature attractions - all with exceptionally long lines to get in.
Quarantine
Quarantine is Spooky World's most elaborately themed maze and the small entrance hides the fact that this is a very long attraction that winds backwards and forwards through a series of containers. Each room has a strong industrial them and the soundtrack of noise and sirens helped set the scene for what should have been a really chaotic maze. Along the way there are some really clever hiding places and the actors could get up really close (if they wanted to). But this was the biggest problem, the maze looked amazing but the acting talent weren't making the best use of what they had been given. With a bit of guidance and perhaps even a couple more actors, this maze has the potential to be a sure fire hit that would really wow visitors.
Field of Screams
We're all aware of the bad growing season so The Field of Screams has had to resort to temporary sheet barriers to delineate the path that we needed to follow. Its not the park's fault, but these barriers cheapened any effect that a corn field might have. Along the way we were met by a few actors who seemed more interested in not slipping over in the mud than they were about scaring us. In fact, we ourselves spent a lot of time looking down to see where we were treading so perhaps missed some of the impact scares.
Its a shame as the opening scene/safety speech really got us in the mood for something really exciting and the clever use of video and sound effects had all the waiting groups completely hyped to enter. Unfortunately after that - it was down hill (in the mud) all the way!

Franko's Fun House
Franko's Fun House was new for 2012 and is a long, fun and very sinister clown/funhouse maze. The clowns were clearly having as much fun as us and in between the scares and sudden appearances there were a number of clever tricks that left us jumping badly. The actors in the fun house were some of the most active we saw all night and attacked from all sides when they could. Of the three walkthrough attractions - this was easily the best.
Haunted Hayride
Haunted Hayrides, by their very nature have to create big scares and scenes that allow everyone on the trailer to be able to see them properly. Fortunately this one has some really fun and different tricks as most of our trailer were either screaming or ducking to get away at some point through the trip into the woods.
Most of the "scares" are performed at trailer height via raised platforms, so the actors are able to jump across easily from the scene onto the trailer. This meant that we were often assaulted by some very enthusiastic monsters on all sides. When not being attacked by live actors, the trailer went past some very large scale startle effects, through a dense woodland, ending with a scary plunge into a lake that left us lifting our feet so they didn't get wet!
And to end it all - it wasn't just about the trailer. As we made our way back through the darkness on foot to the main event arena, we were afforded a few more scares to see us on our way!

As we were entering Spooky World we were amazed at the number of cars leaving in the opposite direction. It soon became clear why as we visited on a Friday night when the park was full of young teenagers. In fact the clientèle seemed to be about 80% teenage groups. Obviously their parents just drop them off for the night and leave them to get on with things but it's a shame as we noticed a lot of bad attitude such as swearing and queue jumping, Fortunately for us the park have recently installed a fasttrack system on all the attractions. So for an extra £5 we were able to jump the massive queues.

Me an my day went to spooky world just before Halloween it's was £28 for both of us (total rip off) we didn't find it scary at all I don't think we scream once ... The only thing that was scary was the clown in Franko's funhouse his breath stunk ! -_- apart from that we was laughing at other people c**ping themselves but seriously spooky world is a rip off for the money. Never go again
