Sector 17
Sector 17 is a brand new scare attraction created by Ewan Davids (Ewan MacGregor) based at the Superbowl in Selby North Yorkshire. On arrival we are warned that a mysterious organisation is hiding a dark secret and it's up to us to discover it. Rumour has it that they've been performing bizarre experiments on humans, then hiding the evidence deep inside Sector 17.
We ventured into the very dark and dilapidated lab in search of evidence of these rumours being true. And it seemed from the start that they were, as we me met test subjects, mad scientists and dead bodies around every corner. Some of them actually seemed to be stalking us as they seemed to know exactly where we were and kept popping up unannounced!
Despite this attraction being made on a low budget and with minimal actors, it was very well presented with the darkness effectively hiding any unthemed elements. The whole show actually lasted a good 15-20 minutes, which at just £4 entry price was very good value indeed. We would have happily paid a little more. The actors worked the maze well and made very good use of the space with some excellent scares complemented with a fun ending being chased by something other than a chainsaw! Very well done to all involved!

In 2007 the venue also held host to it's first ever scare event - Freak Frenzy (also by Ewan). Check out our review from back then:
What a brilliant idea for a horror maze. Hats off to Mr Ewan MacGregor, one of Selby's Bowl n Fun employee's for what can only be described as a full 3 dimensional 3 storey horror walk, crawl, climb, and slide all rolled into one.
Whilst utilising the children's soft play area at night with strobe lights and sirens blazing the three volunteer actors inside the maze felt more like thirty as they came at you from every corner, wall, floor and ceiling. Walking, crawling and climbing through the maze's rat run of tunnels and turns with people scaring you just inches away from your face on the other side of the safety netting at all levels certainly sets the pulse racing!
It could only be described as an undead assault course and because it is a proper maze you will find yourself in what you think is a dead end only to find at the last minute as the ghouls and zombies close in on you that your exit is in a top corner of the ceiling or lower corner of the wall. The closeness of the maze and the proximity of the actors all make up what is a fantastic scare in a very different environment.
With what the owner of Bowl n Fun described as a limited budget for Freak Frenzy, Ewan has delivered an attraction that will only get better in time.
The Freak Frenzy is only just a part of what can be enjoyed at the Selby Bowl n Fun complex. Other entertainment includes ten-pin bowling, a diner and a bar. There are also plans in the near future to have a X-blaster type laser shooting game.
