Scarenation 2013
Scarenation is back for it's third year, and after the farm and stately homes of previous years, the show is set in the incredibly atmospheric Frogmore Mill. The Mill is the world’s oldest mechanised paper mill and is recognised as the birthplace of paper’s industrial revolution. Today it is still a working paper mill producing around 100 tonnes of specialist grade paper every year on historic paper machines. As such, the factory is the perfect setting for a scare event:
Inferno
Inferno is a custom built structure that winds in and out of many of the machines in the factory. The maze is long and filled with lively actors that are able to attack from all sides. As a starter to the event, the maze provided a number of really fun scares and the theme of tortured souls trapped in a burning factory is really enhanced by the presence of all the industrial equipment.
Pulper Panic
Pulper Panic is similar in style to Inferno in that it's a custom built maze utilising many of the features of the venue itself. Set in the "office" area of the factory, the set and theming throughout were quite detailed and there were a number of well hidden cut throughs for the actors to appear from. We had a number of good scares throughout this maze.
Tunnels of Terror
With the first two attractions being so similar in style, we were surprised when we arrived at the next maze to find that things were about to get MUCH darker! The Tunnels of Terror is a dark attraction where guests have to follow a fuel line through a twisted maze filled with hulking creatures. Unlike some dark attractions, this is set in the basement of the mill and it was genuinely pitch black down there. So much so that when an actor appeared or touched us in the dark it was completely shocking. Deprived of our sense of vision, and having to feel our way round, all we could hear around us were the screams of the groups ahead and behind us. Well, that's when we weren't screaming ourselves! Truly terrifying and easily the highlight maze of the night!
Labyrinth
Once out of the darkness we were greeted with one last maze which promised us a tour through a cellar full of banished demons. What we actually got was a clown maze, which felt slightly out of place following the factory theme of the other 3 mazes. Saying that, the clowns were fun and the attraction gave us a number of good scares throughout. It was just a shame that the theme didn't really fit and the maze didn't have a big final scare to end the whole event.
Scarenation is an impressive attraction and the move to Frogmore Mill has really given them the opportunity to use the venue as part of their storytelling. The team are passionate about horror and have created a fun and scary event that managed to surprise and scare us throughout

Having visited similar places before I have got to say I didn't think this was very scary, at first I thought that maybe is because I am not 20, or even 30, anymore but my daughter of 15 was with me and although she laugh a lots she was not very scared, maybe is the fact that, unlike other similar attraction, this is not a permanent one , and so the tricks are limited, the fact is how many time can you get scared by someone jumping out and screaming at you? saying that the paper factory with its impressive machinery was a good setting and some of the creatures were very well made, the clowns were good, the dark part of the factory also was good, hands were coming out from the bottom touching your legs and that was jumpy, I would have like more atmosphere, more "who's and what's there?!!" and not so many people coming out and just screaming. - Rose
