Pasaje del Terror 2013
Pasaje del Terror has terrified over 14 million victims over its 25 year history in a number of different locations and incarnations. Our first experience was the incredible Terror on Church St which we visited while attending the IAAPA convention in Florida. It was at this convention that we witnessed Geoffrey Thompson (the owner of Blackpool Pleasure Beach at the time) strike a deal to bring the iconic horror brand to the UK. Soon after, construction began and the now infamous show opened in the spring of 1998. Since then we have experienced it a multitude of times but with so many other scare events cropping up over the last 15 years, would its still be 'Beyond the limits of Fear'?
The facade is still dark and ominous and after a short queue, we made our way down the steps to the first door. This descent really sets the tone for the whole experience and really effectively creates an atmosphere of dread. Once inside, the show was a scary as ever and never seemed to let up. With many visits under our belt, we usually know what to expect, however this visit exceeded our expectations which was purely down to the actors. In recent years the show has seen no changes to sets, characters, lighting or effects and to be honest is starting to feel a bit dated, yet due to the energetic performance from the actors within, we were left running for the exit!
Pasaje del Terror has all the right tools to scare any individual but we do wonder if some of the iconic characters are as relevant today as they were 15 years ago. Some of the characters may feel fresh to a younger audience as their films have been remade recently but how may teenagers of today will know and recognise the famous Exorcist scene or even Michael Myers (a clear throwback to the 80s). Although to be honest - if you know the character or not - the actors still managed to pull off some impressive jump scares throughout our visit. We just wonder if it might be time to retire some of the classic scenes and introduce more modern horror movie icons?
