Outbreak Brighton
With very little knowledge of what the event would actually entail and some guidance to be prepared to get wet and muddy, we turned up at Brighton station dressed appropriately for whatever the organisers had in store for us.
We checked in with a couple of medical staff and soon we were all be unceremoniously rounded up and forced onto a bus. As part of a Viral Life Study we were being taken to a secret location and when we arrived, we were surprised out just how desolate and off the beaten track this location was.
The event from here on in was a mix of running, crawling and clambering through dark, wet and muddy obstacles, medical tents and more, with either army guys bellowing at us or (worse still) zombies appearing from nowhere to chase us on. Around us in the dark we could hear the screams of others and at times we were separated or split into smaller groups which ramped up the fear factor considerably.
Unfortunately we found quite a few parts with nothing really happening in the way of zombie action. Granted with such a large course, it would need a lot of actors to create a true apocalypse style scenario but we would have perhaps liked a few more to challenge or chase us. As it was - quite a lot of the time it just felt like an extreme run with some actors!
Saying that we had great fun at what was effectively the first run of the event, and we are sure that the organisers will take our advice and look for some more zombies to be hidden around the countryside in future. The start and the set up are all really effective (perhaps too effective - check out the feature below!) and we are the event will go from strength to strength when it returns in 2015

The night after our visit there was a little "incident" at Outbreak Brighton, where the local police took a bit too much interest in the fake guns being used in the event! Check out the press clipping below:
