Operation Blackout
Operation Blackout delves deep into the rich history of the smuggler’s caves which criss cross the Wirral from Fort Perch Rock to Bidston Hill. It is the second attraction from the team that created The Haunting of 65: The Village
We arrived to the Cheshire Cheese, and saw the fog before we saw the Pub! Operation Blackout takes place entirely in the pub’s beer garden, an excellent and creative use of space as it is not in use in the colder autumn months. We were taken into Operation Blackout to meet “Major Tom” a local history buff and a bit of a lush (judging by the empty Lamb’s Rum bottle on the table) The story was told and the atmosphere set for our journey into the “tunnels” underneath the pub.
We were then met by a member of the MOD who was clearly insane (and a fantastic actor!) This ramped up the tension and by now we were fearing what we were going to meet in the tunnels. The main bulk of the scare maze then really kicked off, a disorienting, claustrophobic warren of corridors and tunnels, with zombies at every turn, all clawing for our flesh. It was incredibly un-nerving, especially when we were separated, turned around and met some horrendous dead ends!
A scary, intense maze which set to utterly perplex your brain, and leave you not knowing exactly where you are at any moment, combined with lively, enthusiastic actors, it delivered some high impact scares! Whilst Operation Blackout is not the longest maze (It takes about 15 minutes for the whole experience) it certainly is one created with a clear passion and is a scare maze NOT to miss.
