Night Terrors Jersey
Following the success of Torment last summer, Secrets Beneath announced an overnight event in the spooky Mont Orguiel Castle on Jersey. The Castle during the day gives off an incredible foreboding feeling as you approach it and for the evening the place had been lit up in greens and red - the clever use of lighting giving the historic building a much more sinister tone.
We all gathered in the great Chapel hall where tea and coffee were on hand the cull our nervous shakes, as we were given a brief of what lay ahead of us. The story involved the spirit of a little girl that haunted the castle which had been taken over by a much darker force. It was our job to get the spirits back where they belong. We were introduced to a medium who performed so realistically we couldn't work out if it was just a brilliantly clever illusion, or if he really was communicating with something from the other side! It certainly left the whole group of 50 + guests speechless.
Just as he was finishing his séance, the whole castle shook with a horrendous noise. The medium and other crew members quickly got us into small groups of 4 or 5's and gave us an old faded envelope which contained a map of the castle and instructions of where to go. The plan was simple, go to each location and recover the artifacts and return them so they can be offered to the spirits in a bid to rid the caste of its curse.
As we left the safety of the chapel to start our "Crystal Maze" like quest we were instantly met with huge numbers of, ghosts, demons and creatures plaguing the castle The sounds of screams did not fade for the 2 hours it took all groups to navigate the dozens of rooms, corridors, cellars and buildings. In each room where artifacts were hidden, actors, special effects and other hideous things awaited us. The event was truly fun and frightening, and it was great to see other teams lending a hand to others who had difficulty locating certain items.
The event finished in a massive finale, where each team had to enter an extremely dark room, with blinding lights and more actors than extras from the Hobbit, as we tried to find the wooden chest in which me must leave the relics to put the spirits to rest.
The event was a great a night out, and was great value for money at £39. The staff were amazing and the actors were brilliantly scary and professional. Our only criticism was for the amount of walking we had to under go, for, as for some it was hard climbing so many steps on our mission to save the castle. That aside it was a truly great event, looking forward to seeing what the guys come up with next.
