Mannakin Halloween Safari
When we first saw the trailer for Mannakin Halloween Safari, we knew we had to pay them a visit. Although not opening until a week later, the very accommodating team invited us along for a sneak peek before the public.
The premise is quite simple - the farm is home to thousands of emotionless shop store Mannequins. Some are just piled up in walls of arms and legs and body parts, whilst others are creepily arranged around the site to make it look as if they are watching you intently!
The site itself is fairly small so the team have added a couple of stops along the way to watch short independent horror movies. The problem was we didn't actually want to wind our windows down to hear the dialogue, as we were terrified something was going to jump out at us!
At the back of the site - the child mannequins were even more prevalent, and were placed in particularly creepy stances. In fact everyone in our car gasped when we saw the two static dummy "children" actually driving a toy car towards us and following us down the lane! It was a simple effect that was as creepy as hell!
As it was - most of the scares were just imaginary, as shapes and bodies were glimpsed in the flash of our headlights, and there was a constant feeling of unease as if we were being watched at all times. if anyone had tried any sort of jump scare on us during the drive - we probably would have run them over, and got the hell out out of there!
All in - Mannakin Halloween Safari isn't the scariest event out there - but it is really unique and very unnerving, and is something completely different for Halloween. Also, as the event means staying in your car at all times - it is obviously a completely safe environment from a Covid perspective.
