Ghost Bus Tours - London
It’s been a few years since we last experienced the Ghost Bus Tours, so while in the capital we took the opportunity to see if the attraction had progressed.
At the meeting point at Northumberland Avenue it is very hard to miss the black mysterious vehicle that is the Ghost Bus. The bus is visually very unusual and attracts a lot of attention from people passing by. The back-story states that the Necropolis Bus Company began in the 19th century as a private funeral bus service with the vehicles, (or ‘Carcass Coaches’ as they were known to Londoners) used to convey the deceased to their final resting place. A regular service ran until 1967 when a tragic fire at the company depot razed the building to the ground and destroyed almost the entire fleet of buses. Only one vehicle was salvaged and it has now been restored to its original design and is operated by NECROBUS as a sightseeing service in central London.
Once welcomed aboard the bus and ushered upstairs to take a seat, this historical tour showed us some of London’s darkest tales including visits to Tower of London, Whitehall and Fleet Street. The stories include tales of murder, treason, ghosts and plenty of death. The conductor provided us with these tales with her dark, eerie and animated personality which was conveyed through various webcams throughout the bus adding a comical feel throughout the tour. We were also visited by another unexpected character and the way he joined the tour bus left passengers unsure as to whether he was part of the experience or just a rather unusual passer-by jumping on for the ride!
The tour is very extensive and shows you many sights of London whilst building up its own story which concludes in the special effects finale The characters onboard kept all passengers constantly entertained throughout the experience as well as some unexpected scares which left us all feeling uneasy knowing that we were unable to get off the bus to safety.
The conductor was a complete credit to the tour and kept to the script that we had previously experienced and despite London coming to a complete standstill, she remained in character and continued with tales of London’s gruesome past with added jokes and more passenger interaction. The only slight criticism is that the experience was identical to what we had experienced before meaning that repeat visitors knew exactly what was coming next. We appreciate that the primary focus is tourists who may only do things once but after 3 years it may have been refreshing to see some changes.
But if you are looking for a fun and different way to take in the sights of the city while being entertained and educated about its dark history, then you should definitely experience the Ghost Bus Tours.

SPOOKTASTIC! The actors/ tour guides were great! The decoration, music and atmosphere were amazing. The information about London was well explained and was very interesting. I loved learning about the haunted theatres. The end of the tour was a very nice touch which left us with lots to talk about. Would definately tell my friends to go.
