London Escaped - The Prisoner
London Escaped is a brand new escape room experience that opened earlier this year in East London. Unlike most "secretive" rooms that hate to give anything away, London Escaped clearly has images inside the rooms on their website. And to be honest - we can see why. Thee two rooms are clearly some of the most elaborately decorated rooms we have ever experienced and they want to show them off! But the sets are just part of the fun. How was the gameplay?
Well we really don't want to reveal too much about The Prisoner but if you are claustrophobic or can't stand being hooded then mention this to the game master at the beginning. We cant explain why, but it does take a few minutes to set each player up in their starting position, so be prepared for this. We tried to get a head start by looking round the room, but the games master (in character) kept barking orders at us to face the wall. It added some great tension to the opening scenes.
From there on in - the puzzles were pretty linear - especially as we needed to work together to get fully reunited to continue our explorations. Everything seemed in keeping with the theme, with puzzles using mag lock releases or other tricks, which coincided with the use of themed and believable padlocks and chains. Fortunately the team have realised that a 20th century lock would look very out of place in an 18th century prison!
Although themed as a torturer's lair, and despite some horribly gruesome props, the experience was more tense than scary. We were so tied up in the story and the puzzles, that even some simple jump scares or the lights going out would have put us at edge more and may have slowed us down - as it was we escaped in about 41 mins.
Saying that -we had an absolute blast, and have to praise the team for the attention to detail and theming throughout. Definitely worth checking out!
