London Dungeon - Ghost of Christmas
With its new home at the County Hall and following the extra theming that went into their Halloween show, we were looking forward to seeing what the Dungeon would do for Christmas. Last year, due to the planned move, the Fog Freeze show was extremely disappointing as it was a quick fix to cover up the fact that some of the attraction had already been removed. This year - the Ghost of Christmas has taken up residence.
On first approach to the Dungeon, it was obvious that the Dungeon has spent some effort on Christmas. Two huge and evil looking snowmen guard the entrance while inside, the main lobby has been transformed into a wintry scene. In fact, the Ghost of Christmas story starts with this as the tableau shows a frozen body trapped beneath the ice. A special police inspector explains that the incident happened during the famous frost fairs of old and that someone must have murdered the victim. He moves up and down the line interacting with guests queuing to get in.
Once through the kiosks, the role of the lift-keeper was then replaced by the "ghost" herself who talked about what had happened to her and how we would soon be taken down to the very same frozen river where she died. It's an exciting and intriguing set up but unfortunately has no pay off.
After the introduction, the story was dropped as the show continued in its usual way, with no further mention of the character at all. It would have been nice to see some final pay off or a return of the character but the rest of the show remained as usual (bar for a few references about it being winter). We never did find out who killed her or why. And perhaps we never will now....
We had a great time as usual in the attraction but we left slightly disappointed with the new Christmas show. It certainly wont ruin your experience of the whole attraction and is a nice touch - it just could have finished better.
