London Dungeon - Tyrant Boat Ride
Unfortunately this reviewer was never able to ride the Henry's Wrath, or experience the Gong Farmer show that followed it but other reviewers had mentioned that it was a bit lacking in places (see previous review). having just experienced the latest version we are confident that it is much improved. The rat effect was great, and the Brian Blessed model now has a better place and shortened speech, in an attempt to resolve the issue of riders missing out on what he had to say. Thomas Cromwell has been removed and there are also echoey voices along the dark tunnels creating a scarier atmosphere. It is also now a bit clearer that the boats enter traitors gate (although the gates do not open before you as in Tooley street). All this, as well as the very creepy shadow of an axe man preparing to kill us all, help to create a more cohesive story throughout.
There are also a few severed heads on the way back, and the city gate has a line of gory severed heads on spikes that reminded me very much of Tooley Street. This scene was a vast improvement over the childish toilet humour of the Gong farmer and fitted in with the classic Dungeon style. Unfortunately the show itself seemed very random and it was difficult to keep up with what was going on This is probably due to the fact that it is effectively the unload area for the boat ride and so it is constantly being interrupted by new boats arriving.
Overall, a vast improvement, and the rest of the dungeons was fantastic as ever, especially the creepy lift leper, and Jester, as well as Guy Fawkes, Torture, the Plague and The Ten Bells, which was scarier second time around. It seems to me that now they have made their point with the overhaul of the Dungeons brand from last year onwards that the Dungeon are slowly bringing in small amounts of horror and gore which made the original Dungeon famous.
