The Tortured Soul by Incarcerated
Working in the town of Swindon, means that everyday we, pass by the innocent looking venue of Incarcerated Swindon. In fact you would hardly know it was there, if you didn't look hard enough. A small sign and a couple of arrows once inside, give nothing away, and it wasn't until we were locked in our first room that we realised how elaborate these experiences were!
Our first room was the horror themed The Tortured Soul, which immediately gave off an intensely spooky vibe, as we started to look around and find the first puzzles and clues that needed solving. What stood out was that there were NO padlocks or combination locks to be seen anywhere. Everything in this room worked by proximity sensor,or other device, and so none of the clues or puzzles ruined the atmosphere. And what an atmosphere! Ghostly voices, self moving props and more, all built up to create a totally immersive experience that had us guessing (and at times screaming!) as we moved through the linear puzzles. Of course - like any good escape room - different things were revealed over time and each revelation was as unique and exciting as the first.
Being a new room with the team still tweaking the puzzles, there was one that delayed us by a lot, but we understand the confusing element to this is about to be removed. There was also one elaborate trick, where we could still see some of the internal workings. This can be forgiven as the puzzle itself is unlike anything we have seen before (so was quite nice to see tech behind it!)
All in - we had an absolute blast in The Tortured Soul. Everything about the escape room, oozed class, and we were thrilled that despite our delay over one puzzle, we escaped with 42 seconds spare!

Conspiracy - Agenda 21 by Incarcerated
Of course we couldn't just due one escape room while at the venue, so after a 5 minute break we got ourselves locked in the next room - right in the middle of a global conspiracy theory!
The set up and opening scene for this room, really created a great story, which left us guessing throughout. As we passed through different rooms, the ongoing narrative revealed more about what was going on, and more importantly, how we could escape and stop it.
The puzzles and the clues in this room were a mix of physical activities, skill based tests, padlocks and more, and teased us with their sometimes apparent ease (we would have done better if one person hadn't got completely confused on an easy "sensory puzzle!)
Sometimes doing two rooms by the same creative team back to back, highlights similarities in set up and/or puzzles, but what was so refreshing was that these two rooms were so different. Although we clearly loved the horror room, we had just as much fun in the non-horror room (and without the scares we managed to escape with 14 minutes spare!)
So two rooms in one afternoon? If we could, we would have stayed and done the other two at the venue. We really did have that much fun! There aren't usually many good reasons to visit Swindon on a sunny afternoon, but Incarcerated truly made it worth our trip!
