Horror Zone, Holland
Like Horror Nights in Hilversum is a "pre-halloween event“ , Horror Zone in Best, near to the city of Eindhoven is a "post Halloween event" and runs until the middle of November. It is actually one of the best opportunities to say goodbye to the Halloween season and celebrates its first year at the new location - a historical park area, normally associated with museums and things for the whole family.
The event offers two indoor mazes -Museum and Chaos!, an outdoor maze - Infected and one very special horror experience - Hear Fear alongside a kind of hayride through the forest. (the last two attractions are included in the VIP ticket)
The first maze we experienced was "Museum“. When you enter the pre show room, you get a first impression that something is not right at this place. The rooms are all themed very detailed, and the scares are the softest of the event, so the best maze to begin with. We enjoyed the walkthrough and even though it’s the mildest maze of Horror Zone, we had our jumps and scares.
Directly on the other side there is the maze "Chaos!“ which is much more intense than Museum. The name really is appropriate and I would call it the stress maze of the event, which I enjoyed the most. After the well played pre show you’re running from one scare to another. Noises and strobe effects are used in this maze very often and the scare actors are motivated as well.
Last but not least there’s the apocalypical outdoor maze "Infected“, which you only can enter in small groups of 2 or 3 people. This maze includes a lot of scares. Many of them are very unexpected and intense. Even in the pouring rain (which we had when we walked through the maze) you’re not safe from scares and jumps.
Besides the three mazes, there is also a hayride with a pretty nice (and long) trip through the forest of the park area. and a really unusual horror experience, which was like something you would expect from a Dungeon attraction ( think Sweeney Todd) It wasn't the scariest attraction of the night but one of the most entertaining with some great actors throughout.
So, all in all, we had a very enjoyable and entertaining night at Horror Zone, with a lot of horror attractions, which are all very individual and different. The atmosphere at the park area was authentic and good, but it missed some street scare actors - just a little criticism and one that didn't ruin our night, Horror Zone is definitely worth a visit and I’m very looking forward to the next years and the development of that event at its new location.
