Frankenstein Bar - Edinburgh
During our recent visit to Edinburgh, we decided that it wouldn't be a real ScareTOUR trip if we didn't check out the Frankenstein bar on George IV Street - just a stones throw from the popular tourist destinations along the Royal Mile.
The bar is built in an old abandoned church and has been impeccably themed from top to bottom like a regal mad scientists lab! Every where you turn there are flashing lights, electric static charges or vats of bubbling liquid and the orginal black and white Frankenstein movies play on large screens above the bar. The pub has a reputation for being a lively night out and the music was a perfect mix of chart and contemporary without being too loud that conversation was impossible.
One of the highlights is that every couple of hours and light and sound show is activated which culminates in a "life size" Frankenstein monster being lowered from the ceiling and coming to life to take a look around the room. It sounds cheesy but was great fun to watch from our booth!
While at the bar, we were tempted by a number of different drinks off the cocktail menu including the delicious Dr Frankenstein. It was far too easy to drink so we ended up sampling a few more before we had finished! The bar also serves good quality pub food at reasonable prices and between us we had Haggis and Neeps (well - when in Scotland...) and a massive chilli burger. The kids menu was also well stocked, and with the kids Franky cups its clear that the bar welcome family groups.
All in all - we had a fantastic couple of hours at the pub with good food, excellent drinks and great music. That along with the impressive horror theme decoration, means we would definitely recommend a visit next time you are in Edinburgh. And if you do go - check out the Frankenstein Bar App on iTunes and Play Store to get a further discount on your bill!
