FEAR
When we first heard about this attraction we were unsure as to how it would work and how successful it would be. With many of the props and effects being handmade, it could have become no more than a cheap fairground attraction with no heart or soul. Instead, what we have is a perfect little slice of pure fear that seemed to leave everyone screaming to get out!
Built from a large container truck, the outside of Fear is very impressive with some extremely detailed artwork giving the impression of an old run down cabin. Due to its tenure on the fairground circuit, the attraction also has an extremely gaudy (but brilliantly painted) mural that sits atop the cabin to entice in wary visitors.
Guests enter through the side door and apart from an undecorated hallway section (planned to be completed during the summer) the attraction is extremely dark, extremely claustrophobic and full of very impressive animatronics effects that, due to the width of the corridors, come VERY close to you as you pass!
The layout of the rooms and corridors is neatly packed into a small area and the constant direction changes and hidden passages make for a very disorienting experience. With the addition of sheeting barriers between rooms, items hanging from the ceiling and strobe and lighting effects, it can be quite difficult to find your way through and on a sunny day we were having to feel ahead to work out the way the path was turning next!
The size of the attraction outside belies what’s inside – with 2 whole levels of terror, it took us a long time to completely navigate our way out by which time we were suitably shocked and had jumped a number of times.
Of course this was only the core house with “just” the special effects. The makers have designed many of the scenes to have live actors in who can perform anything from simple impact scares through to following and chasing people around.
On a quiet Sunday afternoon we saw many people go into the attraction and everyone came out laughing (some even came back out the front door as they were too scared to go on). On a busy fair night with lots of fun loving people, we wouldn’t be surprised if the screams could be heard for miles!
We REALLY enjoyed Fear. For a couple of pounds it provided more scares and shocks than some of the high profile permanent attractions and we wish the team behind it a long and successful time with it on the touring circuit.
As Fear travels around the country – check the attraction page here to find out if it’s appearing near you. If it does come to your town – go give it a try – we dare you!
