Fear Forest
On arriving at Fear Forest we instantly loved the atmosphere that had been created. The venue had been well lit and there were zombies prowling around everywhere. Some coming quite close! We started the night in the Screamers bar - The Watering Hole for the Undead. It was great to see that even the disco was in the spooky mood with "lightening" and other haunted sounds alongside lights randomly going off. After a quick drink we headed off to scary tales.
Scary Tales
We were really impressed with this attraction as it was a well thought out maze with lots of interaction with the actors. The scenes were a mix of scary and surreal and our favourite part was in the mad hatters tea party where the zombie Alice tried to take us to Wonderland! The maze had some really well thought out sets for each different act and some impressive designs in some of the rooms. Although not overly jumpy, the jack in the box really got us and the bad Santa was certainly someone you wouldn't want to cross! The big finale had everyone running for the exit when the dreaded chainsaw fired up!
The Fear
The fear is a pretty simple but effective strobe maze and was our favourite maze of the three. Around every corner was a jump and at times it was so dark we didn't know which way to run! When we eventually did get some normal light it was because we were thrust into a room filled with blood splattered walls and body bags which came to life around us! It was a great maze from the outset although just slightly let down by a lacklustre ending.
The Creepy Cottage
Billed as the more "family friendly" maze, the queues was quite bad for this and unfortunately they closed the queue line before everyone had had chance to experience it. Fortunately we were one of the last groups to get through! Once inside we were taken through several rooms of the "house" with the only light coming from candles, creating shadows in every corner. The following scenes were quite eerie especially the child begging us to protect her before being ripped away by a demon. Following a Ouija board experience we were told that someone wanted to kill us and were told to leave. Running down the stairs and through the kitchen we were met by quite a bloody sight, which was a ghoulish and chilling finish to a good maze.
For a start up event , we were really impressed with the design and storytelling at Fear Forest. It will be very interesting to see how this event develops in the future.
