Insomnia by Escapologist Castleford
You know we love a good horror themed escape room, so we had to pay a visit to The Escapologist to play Insomnia, based within XScape entertainment centre in Castleford. Without giving anything away that isn’t already on their website, was it scary? Yes, it genuinely was!
You can enter in teams, but we went with just two of us knowing it would intensify the experience. Before we even entered we were on edge, in fact one of us nearly didn't go in after the briefing from Michael (our Games Master/)
Inside it was practically pitch black, with just fake tea lights dotted around to help us see. We found we could pick them up to use for a little light, and it turns out we can now carry five tea lights in each hand at the same time while running around screaming like idiots! A useful skill for anyone to have.
The set looks great and the audio effects really add to the atmosphere. Certainly there was a lot more to the story than we weree told about on the website. Other customers and staff certainly had a good time too, laughing at us via the security cameras as we discovered when we ran through the exit.
There isn’t much more we can say without giving the game away, but we thoroughly enjoyed it and managed to escape in time. Some of the puzzles were quite tricky so we had to have a couple of clues. We will certainly be back to any future horror escape rooms by The Escapologist, but just need to calm down from playing Insomnia first.
