Drayton Manor - Night at the Manor 2022
We arrived at the venue full of excitement to experience a new event. We have always thought that Drayton Manor would be a good place for an attraction so we were thrilled when Night at the Manor was announced! After an eventful opening talk (being ambushed by zombies) it was time to embark on the mazes.
First up was Castle of Screams which is set inside the park's castle. As we made our way down the dark and cold corridors, we had a number of jump scares, such as a crazed woman behind bars who we managed to escape from before she broke free, some other jumps and the obligatory chain saw finale.
We then made our way to the Haunted Express which is based on the train ride and has audio headsets to immerse you into the story. As the train started to leave we were told all about the history of the old maintenance man. But then all of a sudden the train started to jolt, and we were suddenly joined by the ghost of the old man himself, as we transported back to a different dimension . As the train set off on its eerie way we met plenty of bumps in the night, with a scare around every corner. This was easily the highlight of our night.
Finally we headed off to the final maze - The Hunt for Zebadiah which is a walk through based in the zoo. We were met by our guide who embarked on the story of Zebadiah and his two brothers. As we walked through the eerie zoo in the darkness, we learned more about his murderous ways. Sadly there really was only one actor around the entire 15 minute walk until the finale, and the groups were too large with around 30 people trying hard to hear what was going on. The location is perfect but the attraction definitely needs some more actors and morescares.
For a brand new event, we can see that Night at the Manor has a lot of potential. With several rides open as well as the three scare attractions, it just needs to focus a bit more on the scares throughout. We really look forward to seeing how this develops and expands going forward.
