Review - Wonderland by DBY Interactive
Wonderland by DBY Interactive was part scare attraction, part game, and part theatre. Located in “Camp & Furnace” in Liverpool, the event took us on an interactive actor-led journey to find the missing Alice.
The experience was really surreal from start to finish. Not overtly scary, but it it was immersive, unsettling and at times quite funny. The actors were excellent and drove the story throughout - each one we met, was twisted enough to fit into a sick “psychopath’s” version of Wonderland!
There was an air of art installation in Wonderland which perhaps pervaded over the scare factor and gave the whole experience a most visceral and almost out of body experience. There were some stand out scenes including Tweedle-dum (or was he Tweedle-dee?) and the Alice in chains really captivated us.
The scare maze section in the middle of the event was disorientating and full of good jump scares. Unfortunately, we never actually met the infamous Mad Hatter, he was just on a screen at the tea party. We felt that the experience could have been ramped up into the finale and actually had the Mad Hatter made an appearance in person. Ultimately with the final scene, any tension or apprehension was quickly quashed when we were directed out of the door into a corridor near the toilets! It was a sadly strange and abrupt ending.
Ignoring that though, we found Wonderland to be very entertaining and well presented in terms of design and presentation. With strong performances and interesting stories, we're glad we made the effort to go and visit!
