Cromford Nightmare
We were really excited to attend this event as it was a new production team and venue for us. On arrival we were asked to wait until we were called in, and to our delight they had a lovely little coffee shop on site, so we took to the warmth to wait.
After a short while we were called to a room and given a briefing along with a safe word if we needed it. We were then asked to watch a short video of some found footage that would set up the story for the event. This is where we found our only little blip of the evening, as they had said the man in the footage hadn’t been seen again, but he had greeted us went we first arrived at the building!
Once the show started we were led to some very dark woodlands where we had a choice – team up with other groups or decide to brave it alone. We all agreed to work as a team and were given 3 head lamps between us all (around 9) as well as a map of the area that we needed to search. A quick reminder of the safe word and off we went.
It was dark. Very very dark! With just 3 lights it made it very eerie and the natural voices around us really made us jumpy. Therefore, when we were suddenly faced with a creature jumping out at us, everyone screamed. After this, our group was on edge, and the deeper into the woods, the darker it became, and the more creatures we encountered. After a while. and only finding 4 of the 5 artefacts our time was up, and we needed to move on quickly.
Each scene after this included more searching for artefacts amongst different scary creatures and characters, all building up to a terrifying blind fold scene that really left us on edge. But that was nothing compared to the part where we were separated from the group and moved to a secret location. We started off alone and scared but soon something joined us, whilst one by one, the group got back together. We all ended up in the final room where we needed to complete a mission and join all the artefacts together to escape. We had 15 minutes to do this but failed miserably!!
As a first event we were blown away. We loved the outdoor parts and feel that more events should use their natural surroundings as it really was the perfect setting for this type of event. Overall, there were a few little things needing tweaking but as a whole it was fantastic and gives great scope for future years. We can’t wait to see what they do next!
