Circus of Horrors - London After Midnight
Circus of Horrors are celebrating ‘18 bloody years’ of rock, roll, circus, magic, the bizarre and of course nudity in their latest incarnation of the Circus of Horrors show. London after Midnight (based on the lost 1927 film) brings back all our favourite circus folk from around the world to boast their talents and freakish skills to a sold out crowd.
The fourth wall is broken at the very beginning of the show with ‘creatures’ climbing over the audience to get to the stage. A very simple yet effective way to scare the audience and allow them to become submissive from the outset.
Doctor Haze sets the scene of London 1665 where our journey of London after Midnight starts. Previous Circus of Horrors shows have seen acts slot into a loosely followed narrative which has always worked for COH. However this year, rather than a story of a beginning, middle and end, the performance adopts certain themes throughout. The Plague, Bedlam and The Great Fire amongst others gave the show depth and realism whilst watching some amazing talent. This years show seemed to be choreographed to perfection, the speed and interaction between different acts made the show feel as fresh and as exciting as it was 18 years ago.
The Circus of Horrors never fails to deliver. Acrobatics, balancing acts, sword swallowing, contortionism, flexibility and more, all executed in a beautifullu sick and twisted line of attack to make you squirm, gasp and laugh in disbelief. Although we had seen some acts on previous tours, Dok Haze and the team do an amazing job to use the story/theme of the show to accommodate truthfully outstanding talents. The cast of the circus must also be commended for how they push boundaries; each time we see a performance the acts always try to make their act more dangerous, exciting or sicker than previous years.
The Circus of Horrors does exactly what it says on the tin. Horrific circus acts are in abundance, accompanied by hard rock music, lights, fire, pyro, breasts and of course an infamous henry hoover! London after Midnight is just at the start of its tour meaning it will be coming to a town near you soon. This is one show not to be missed!
