Scareshow at Church Farm
Last year, the Haunted Hay Ride was one of the scariest and chaotic things we have ever experienced. So what did Scareshow have in store for us this year?
Haunted Hayride
After the chaos of last year's hayride, we were slightly disappointed to hear that this year we would remain on the trailer instead of getting off and running through the woods! Even so - the attraction provided a number of good scares and effects that left most of the trailer screaming. Ingeniously, this trailer has blinds down the side that completely block any views until they are lifted remotely by the tractor driver. This means that everyone knows which way to look during each scene so we didn't miss anything. Of course, the blinds also create an incredible feeling of anticipation, especially when the trailer stops and the one behind you starts to rise! You just know that something is about to happen!
The scares came from all different sources and included freaks, chainsaws and some very odd black figures that were really hard to spot in the darkness. As the trailer lurched from scene to scene, we were never quite sure what would be attacking us next (or from where!) and there were a couple of really good scares that made the whole trailer jump. Combined with the outside scares, the trailers come equipped with a TV screen which helped to set up the tension around some of the scenes. Unfortunately with so much screaming, it was sometimes hard to hear what was being said.
The attraction was definitely a lot less chaotic than the previous year but was actually more of what you would expect from a hayride. It certainly kept us entertained for the full duration.

Creepy Cottage
After experiencing the Creepy Cottage, we felt that a call to the Trades Description Office was in order! There was nothing "creepy" about this cottage as it was down right terrifying in places! Some of the tunnels and pathways were so dark that at one point we had to just feel our way slowly through the darknes not knowing what our outstreched hands would find. When we did find light it was usually illumnating some graphic scene or distracting us so an actor could jump out behind us. Full of impact scares, the actors had some ingenious places to hide and we were pleased to step out the final door at the end
Nightmare Circus
Nightmare Circus is built in an existing wooden maze structure and was populated by evil clowns ready to pounce. Clown mazes by their very nature can be hit and miss and no-one in our group particularly found them scary but we all experienced a number of good jump scares as they appeared from nowhere. Wandering the paths and taking wrong turns was all part of the fun and was made even more enjoyable by the clowns taunting us everytime we made a wrong turn. In fact the fun of this maze came from the playfulness of the actors (especially when 1 or 2 of the routes can be manipulated via a swing door that had us completely confused as to which path to follow as they all seemed to lead to a dead end). Although not scary - the Nightmare Circus provided a number of fun jumps and some interesting abuse from the clowns.
Unlike some parks, Scareshow has a strict policy that all parties must have at least one adult in their group and this keeps the groups more manageable. This policy may limit their customers at times but does mean that the atmosphere felt more family focussed and relaxed. We arrived quite late in the evening (after 9) and the attractions were all really quiet so we managed to complete everything in under an hour without any waiting around.

This was the first time me and my partner had visited Scare show. We had been to a number of other local scares and thought we would give this a try. We started off with the hay ride, this was a good scare and really imaginative in parts however there were way too many people on the hay ride which partly ruined the scare, It felt like being on a national express bus there was that many people. On the website it said children must be accompanied by adult, we arrived to see scores of roaming children which made us feel quite out of place being in our twenties. The creepy cottage was scary , very basic in comparison with other scare attractions but we were on edge from start to finish. The production values had allot to be desired especially due to cost of £15.50. This brings us on to nightmare circus. I don't know where the reviewer from this site went but not to this attraction as it was the worst scare I have ever been in. Not scary what so ever just a bunch of annoying teenagers in clown makeup speaking in fake Scottish accents. This attraction is what prompted me to write this review as it was shockingly bad in comparison to all other scares, even travelling ghost trains. All in all I would not recommend this scare at times it just felt like a cash in go to scream kingdom Blackburn, much better scare all round and at the same cost.
